VB, tough job to come into a program that is on the bottom. Hard to recruit because why would good players come. Soccer needs a win to get things started. It's still to early to tell what the true level of the competition has been so far.
On the radio feed they said Dennis got suspended for this game for violating team rules. It takes time to gain the needed discipline.
The penalties also show that the team doesn't have enough discipline yet.
Including both McNeese games between last Thursday and tonight the SLC is 0-6 versus FBS teams, 2-1 against FCS and a victory over a non-D1. Both Lamar and Nicholls played to within a one score difference against group of five FBS schools.
Nope, Texas State just decided to wake up their offense. This last drive the officials missed another obvious penalty for a lineman down field on a pass play that could have made a difference. But that doesn't change two quick touchdowns to effectively put the game out of reach, 5:28 left and Lamar now down 34-17.
Lamar getting screwed by the TSU replay crew. Targeting called by the replay crew on a what really appears to be a good tackle. The same bunch also ruled a TSU fumble an incomplete pass.
New half, Lamar offense takes the kickoff and moves the ball 75 yards in five plays for a touchdown to narrow the gap a little. Lamar did get the aid of a TS pass interference call, but still had some good runs including the final 18 yards.
So far on Saturday, UIW is ahead of Northern Colorado, HCU is getting buried by SMU, Nicholls is one score down at La Tech, Commerce is surprising San Diego St and Southern is up on McNeese.
Offense performs admirably in the second quarter for a total of negative fourteen yards. Texas St gives Lamar a break by bringing in the second team Qb for a couple of series allowing Lamar Defense to settle down a little and breaking their own offensive flow. Halftime score 18-0.
No, just hoping. I think Lamar needs to put in the third team offense. No point in taking a chance to get the studs hurt in a blowout loss. Lamar has more penalty yards than offensive yards in the first quarter.
Lamar offense moved the ball a little, but turned the ball over on downs at the Texas St forty five. TSU drives right down the field to score their second touchdown.
Lamar kicks off to open the game on defense. Defense unable to put any pressure on SWT and the Bobcats move quickly to score a touchdown on their opening drive in under two minutes.
Through the first half of the Thursday night games and last weeks McNeese game it looks like the SLC will be one and three with the lone win coming from SFA against non-D1 North American University. Northwestern St played it close against Tulsa for the first quarter but since then have caved. That might sound good, but Tulsa is picked next to last in the AAC. Southeastern La. hasn't done anything against Tulane.
LU web site does their last look at the football team, not including the special teams with the defensive backs. This is the area with the biggest question mark and for me its hard to pick between it and the o-line for the position group that needs to step up the most compared to last year.
It doesn't look like anyone believes Lamar will deliver an upset, and with that I think the opportunity is can the offense move the ball against Texas States first team defense and can the Lamar defense avoid giving up the big play. I'm looking for Lamar to keep it at a three score defict.
It's game week. Looks like Texas State is picked first in the west division of the Sunbelt Conference. What should the expectations be for Lamar? Any chance of a win?
Week 0 game between Tarleton State and McNeese shows McNeese appears to be much improved. McNeese has a total of fifty-nine new players on its roster including a transfer QB who started for FCS runner-up Montana last season and several FBS to FCS transfers. The QB transferred to a lower tier FBS school for the spring semester and then to McNeese over the summer.
Five total intra=conference games this season, with three involving Tarleton and one against each Central Arkansas and Abilene Christian. UCA is picked to win their conference with Tarleton tabbed for second place. UCA starts the season ranked eleventh while Tarleton State is ranked twenty-first. UIW is the highest ranked SLC school at number fourteen with Nicholls sitting at twenty-three.
