  1. Texas Southern takes the opening kick off and makes an impressive 16 play drive settling for a field goal to take the early lead. Lamar couldn't stop TSU rush offense until the last two plays at the goal line to hold them to the field goal.
  2. The two early games directionally have gone as expected. UTSA blew out HCU and with under six minutes left Nicholls is bombing Miss Valley St. Lookes like Nicholls is taking out their frustrations from the first three weeks.
  3. Pure seating capacity Lamar doesn't need much if any to meet FBS standards. Lamar would pretty much need to sell out for what is supposed to be the attendance standard. Every time I think about what it would really take, I think how short sighted the Lamar administration has been over the years. They could have attached the Dauphin Athletic Complex to the south side of the Montagne which then would have left the south end open to create a horseshoe down the road and also made the complex easily accessed by both football and basketball for meeting rooms and weight rooms. But since they didn't really think about what might be needed to get to FBS when they built it expanding seating now is a lot harder and a lot more expensive.
  4. I think this is one of two or three trap games left, although Lamar should not overlook anyone. Of the remaining games Texas Southern may be the one chance for a three or more scores win. Northwestern St and Commerce are the other two potentially should win games left.
  5. 8 Games are on tap this weekend. UIW is off, HCU plays FBS UTSA. Remainder of games are three versus Big Sky, three versus SWAC and one MVFC. SELA takes on FCS #1 ranked South Dakota State. Lamar, McNeese and Nicholls play SWAC schools with Lamar hosting Texas Southern who currently sits first in the west division of their conference. I believe the SLC can win all three of the SWAC contests and maybe one of the Big Sky games.
  6. Getting recognized is nice, but what ranking does the selection committee use. I don't think the FCS Coaches Pole is updated yet.
  7. When you look at conference standings, they are sorted by conference games first and overall record second.
  8. McNeese comes back on SFA and wins the game scoring three times in the fourth quarter.
  9. UIW rally comes up short. Final score SIU 35 - UIW 28. Grambling comes back on Commerce to tie the game and then win in overtime. SFA up by ten over McNeese with 12:18 left in the game.
  10. Lamar and SELA get home wins against Big Sky conference teams Weber St and Eastern Washington. Nicholls trailing Sacramento St 24-0 with two minutes left in the first half at Sacramento. UIW trailing at SIU by two scores with 6:42 left in that game but moving the ball into SIU territory,
  11. Lamar holds on for the one-point victory as Weber St misses a potential game winning field goal. Big win.
  12. Lamar unable to get a first down and will punt the ball back to Weber with 52 seconds left, but should get good field position.
  13. Weber returns the favor turning down the go-ahead field goal with under two minutes left in the game to go for a fourth and one at the one-yard line. Lamar defense makes a tremendous stop.
  14. Lamar misses an opportunity to extend the lead when it is unable to convert a fourth and one at the Weber three-yard line.
  15. Longino completes a 72-yard pass and run to Damien Moore to get Lamar back the lead with nine minutes left in the third quarter. Lamar up 17-16
  16. Longino begins Lamar's second half at quarterback.
  17. Weber St takes the second half kickoff and drives for a touchdown but misses the extra point to take a 16-10 lead. Lamar will need to respond.
  18. SLC scores at the half of Lamar's game. HCU up solidly against a non-D1 program. SELA is tied with Eastern Washington. Commerce is tied with Grambling. UIW defense unable to stop Southern Illinois offense. UIW down by three touchdowns at the half. SFA and McNeese are scoreless in the second quarter.
  19. Tied at the half. Possible big thing is the knee injury to Coleman before Longino came in a threw the touchdown pass for Lamar. Watching Coleman since, the medical staff has put a knee brace on Coleman, and he is definitely limping. Did that have anything to do with the pick six?
  20. After a good start for the first quarter and a half, Lamar defense has a totally unnecessary personal foul to aid a Weber St drive that results in a field goal. On the ensuing possession Lamar gives up a pick six touchdown that let's Weber tie up the game at 10-10 with 240 left in the half.
  21. Cards hold Weber St to a three and out to open the game. Then have a nice drive that stalls out at the Weber five-yard line, settling for a field goal and three-point lead.
  22. It's game time, let's go Cards.
  23. VB drops the third match in the Memphis round robin to Indiana St to end the winning streak. Three matches this coming week to close out the non-conference.
  24. Not sure what to think about Lamar this week. Texas St played Arizona St to a three-point loss and had chances to win it and defeated UTSA soundly last week which would make you think a little higher of Lamar, but last week Lamar probably should have won by a bigger margin and then there were all the penalties. Weber St is #25 in the FCS coaches poll, so it will take a strong effort for Lamar to get the win.
  25. Lamar soccer ends their non-conference schedule with another draw versus UL-L. Lamar was ahead for most of the game but gave up the tying goal with about four and a half minutes left in the match. Conference play starts Sunday at SFA.
