  1. Softball drops the afternoon game 7-3 to ULM
  2. Where is Chappell at now? Does he have any record as a head coach?
  3. Lost the second game to UNI this morning 8-6. Will play UL-Monroe later this afternoon for the final game of this weekend.
  4. Cards fall to UNO by a final of 77-71. The Cards have three games left and unless East makes it back, I doubt they win another game. If they don't make the tournament is that enough to get rid of Brooks. I know he got an extension last year but you can't say the program is headed in a good direction.
  5. Lamar playing UNO without East and Wilhite, but hanging close, down three at the half 32-29. Not sure what is wrong with Wilhite, but they said East is out with an ankle injury and has been in a walking boot since Monday nights game.
  6. Not the start of last year, but as always if you're not in a major conference it comes down to the end of the season and the conference tournament. Need both pitching and hitting to become more consistent.
  7. Ladies win the first game of a five-game weekend event at UL Monroe defeating University of Pine Bluff 9-1 in five innings. Lamar will play University of Northern Iowa and UL-Monroe each twice over the next two days.
  8. Lamar takes down University of Kansas at home this evening. 4-1 Cards travel to Dallas Friday to take on UT-Arlington for three games this weekend.
  9. It's a little interesting that a more or less new twist is occurring in FBS as both of these moves are for football only. NDSU is a member of the Summit for all other sports. The Summit doesn't have enough football playing schools to have their own conference. Both the MVFC and Big Sky have football only members from other conferences with more than enough to maintain their automatic bids so neither should have to hunt for immediate replacements.
  10. I read that North Dakota State has decided to join the Mountain West Conference making the move to FBS. Sacramento State is also making the move joining the MAC. One less school in the MVFC and Big Sky FCS conferences.
  11. Four games left two at home and two on the road. Need to win three out of four games, probably just to get a bottom seed.
  12. Another blown opportunity at UTRGV. Can't make the critical free throws and give up open three-point shots to UTRGV late in the game.
  13. Lamar drops the third game 3-2 giving up the winning run in the top of the tenth. Cards had plenty of opportunities to push other runs across throughout the game but didn't get the job done. Next game is Tuesday at Texas and then back home Wednesday with Kansas.
  14. Cards finish the first game with an 8-2 win and then come from behind to take a 9-7 win in the scheduled Saturday game. Cards pitching wasn't the best early giving up two runs in both the first and second innings and a run in the third to be down 5-1 after three innings. The Cards score at least one run in each of the next five innings including four in the bottom of the seventh. Lamar has a chance for the sweep tomorrow.
  15. Lamar down big at the half in Corpus 38-22. Cards shooting a poor 30% from the field and one of seven from three-point range. Also getting out rebounded.
  16. Lamar is up 6-0 in the top of the eighth. It has been foggy since about the third inning and the fog has gotten thick enough that the coaches with the umpire have suspended the game until tomorrow afternoon. Lamar's starting pitcher, Olivier lasted 6.2 innings and looked pretty good.
  17. The Cards open this year's season at home against Oakland University out of Michigan with a three-game series starting this evening and finishing up Sunday afternoon.
  18. I know others have at least thought it. It's time for a new coach. I'll give Brooks credit as a recruiter, but Lamar has lost too many games because they got out coached and don't really have an offense.
  19. Lamar down by four at the half, 37-33.
  20. Cards host Northwestern St with seven games remaining including this one. Lamar is currently in seventh place and no chance to get to the top of the conference before the tournament. That said Lamar plays all four of the teams between them and third place in the remaining games, so Lamar can climb up the seeding chart. Apparently, Lee and Holifield are somewhat in the doghouse as neither of them started the game. To me Lamar is missing guys that will or can make the contested shot consitently.
  21. Both women and men fall at SFA. Women fell on a last .8 second inbound long three-point shot following a Lamar free throw miss and a timeout to get the ball to half court for the inbound. Men fall by ten points but get an outstanding performance from East with thirty-three points and ten rebounds. Problem was no help from the normal scorers and apparently Brooks decided that three of the starters didn't deserve to play for most of the second half. Lee and Wilhite both ended the game with zero points and Holifield only scored five. Those three also each played eighteen or less minutes.
  22. Looks good on paper, but we will have to wait until September to see how it transfers to the field.
  23. 29 new signees today. Some really good size on both lines and a qb with some real size 6-5 220.
  24. Cards win 73-54. Although Lamar gets a win by a good scoring margin it still wasn't an easy or a smooth win. Lamar would get out to a seven-point lead or so and then go stale while SLU would work their way back to a close to even game until about a third of the way into the second half.
  25. After dropping the last two games and falling to seventh place the Cards are at home looking to even the conference record. Lamar is up by five points at the half 31-26 despite shooting a slightly lower field goal percentage than the SLU.
