  1. Third quarter Lamar has two three and out offensive series and gives up another touchdown in the first ten minutes of the quarter. Time to make some changes.
  2. Second quarter is worse than the first, Lamar winds up with 45 total yards at the half, but offense is totally inconsistent. Coleman has a decent completion percentage, but not for any meaningful yardage at 60% and has thrown an interception and had a strip sack fumble that was recovered for a UNT touchdown. Defense has done a reasonable job of stopping the run but have put nearly zero pressure on the UNT quarterback who has 257 yards passing. Lamar also has nine penalties for 79 yards. Hope the second half is an improvement, but I am afraid if it is, it will because UNT is playing backups.
  3. Lamar is unable to put pressure on the UNT quarterback and UNT moves the ball down the field with several good passes for a touchdown on the opening drive. UNT tried going for two on the extra point but failed. Lamar moves the ball a little on it's first possession but after getting a first down are forced to punt. A poor punt puts UNT in good starting field position and again UNT is able to move the ball down the field aided by a Lamar personal foul for a second touchdown with 5:46 left in the first quarter.
  4. It's game time and the Cards open on defense.
  5. Lamar volleyball wins a five-set match against Stetson for it's first victory of the season and also the first win for a Lamar sports team of the year. Can Football get the second?
  6. Volleyball falls in both matches today. The first match with Northern Illinois went all five sets with the first four sets all two-point decisions before falling 15-6 in the final set. The second match with Southern Mississippi only went three sets but again with both of the first two sets two-point decisions. Lamar will face Stetson tomorrow morning.
  7. Lamar - UC Davis match ends in a scoreless tie. I am not enough of a soccer fan to be able to tell if Lamar has an offense strategy or execution problem but only scoring one goal in four matches doesn't seem good enough to me. Soccer travels to Sam H this Sunday. Volleyball begins their non-conference schedule with two matches tomorrow and one on Saturday.
  8. Couldn't find a lot about UNT Football. Looks like their picked in the middle of the American Conference. Appear to have a few recognized players but none especially noteworthy. Playing an FBS program almost always means Lamar is an underdog, the question is how far under. ESPN doesn't show a point spread. I expect Lamar to play a good game hopefully with less self-inflicted mistakes than the early games last year and I hope Lamar can come out with no serious injuries.
  9. Soccer falls again at UTSA in a 1-0 decision. UTSA got their lone goal on a penalty kick at around the 80th minute. Lamar had a chance to tie the game with a PK as time ran out but could not convert. Soccer hosts UC-Davis on Thursday and goes to Sam H next Sunday. Volleyball gets started with three matches between Friday and Saturday and Football starts Saturday evening in Denton.
  10. Week zero finds the preseason favorite UIW falling to Nicholls. Doesn't look like there is another conference game until week five, September27th
  11. Some of us don't do Facebook. I don't believe there is a designated person to start game threads. I have done some in the past when it was close to time for a game to start and no one else had started one. So, if you "lu cards" want to start them have at it in my opinion.
  12. Soccer falls 1-0 at Texas A&M. A&M scored with about three minutes left. Good effort by the Cards.
  13. Soccer opened the year with the first official game of the year at UL-L with a 4-1 loss. Their next game will be at Texas A&M this Sunday. Soccer will have four games completed before Volleyball or football play their first games.
  14. Men won all three games. Good trip for the team and should be a benefit to the coaches in getting an earl look. Looks like Lamar did a fairly good job of controlling turnovers.
  15. Men get a second win yesterday. Three players in double figures. They finish with a game today against presumably better competition. Holifield has been the leading scorer in both games and three-point shooting percentage has been better than past years.
  16. Cards won the first game Monday evening. It is difficult to say what the true level of the competition is but a win is a good thing and the early opportunity for games should be helpful in building the teams chemistry.
  17. Lamar website has an article about the Men's team going to Puerto Rico for some exhibition games the next three days. Does anyone know if any of these games are available to view?
  18. Looking through the roster it would appear that passing might be bigger part of the offense as there are several what you would expect as speed runners but maybe only one or two with enough size to be a smash mouth runner. I counter four quarterbacks, so I hope one of the three new or untested quarterbacks can step up.
  19. Players Report to Camp, Football Season Has Returned - Lamar University Athletics Fall camp is officially here and now is time for the team to prove they can continue to build into a consistently strong program. There should be several goals for this season, first a third consecutive winning season, second a playoff berth and third a conference championship. You can argue that number three should be first but if you are still building then you need the first two.
  20. Cardinals Add Post Player to Roster - Lamar University Athletics Glad to see Lamar added a post player transfer. Hopefully he will deliver what Coach is thinking he is capable of.
  21. Looks like another area that Lamar needs to improve on, especially in the rivalry with McNeese. Sixty thousand more attendance could help with recruiting and NIL potentially.
  22. Yes, for some reason they have given two-year JUCO players an extra year of eligibility, not sure if that rule applies to one-year JUCO players. Nothing against him but I hope one of the other guys beats him out for the starting job.
  23. Cards baseball season is over with a disappointing performance in the conference tournament. Cards lost to AMCC 12-5 in the elimination game.
  24. Apparently Lamar doesn't play well in Edinburg. After dropping yesterday's opening game the Cards are down 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning making five errors so far on the day in their second game.
  25. Lamar sweeps HCU to capture 3rd place in the regular season. Bad news is they travel to UTRGV for the first round of the conference tourney and get a fourth straight game against HCU in double elimination play to see if they can get to the championship series.
