  1. Cards up 58-15 at the half. Ten of the twelve Cardinal's that have played so far have at least two points. Rob Lee is the leading scorer making 7 of 8 three-point attempts. Holifield is the next high scorer with nine points on four of seven attempts. East has ten rebounds at the half.
  2. Game going as expected with Lamar up 36-11 at the 8:06 mark of the first half. Best news of the game is BB Knight is on the floor playing. BB is 0-2 from the field but has two assists in four minutes of play and two for two from the free throw line.
  3. Men host Lady of the Lake at 6:00 in what should be a make us feel good game.
  4. Bad news for the SLC, Southeast La lost to MVFC fifth place team Illinois St at home. SLC teams have to win against these better perceived FCS conferences.
  5. I was in the air flying back for most of the game but was able to keep up with it. Glad Lamar got to the playoffs, but at the same time how many of thought that with the schedule Lamar had to start the year that eight wins would be a good year. Hard to say what effect injuries played overall, but again that's something most teams have to deal with to some extent. There is still a lot of room for the program to improve. I think Lamar needs at least one big bruiser back that can always get at least one yard even if there is no blocking. The offensive line still needs to take another step up in quality. The same is probably true for the defense. You have to be able to make a first down or score on one yard to go and Lamar failed to do so multiple times in today's game and over the last two or three games. Hopefully McCown stays, recovers fully from whatever nagging injuries he has been playing with and can step up his passing game next year.
  6. There are three statistics that you almost always need to win to win the game. Time of possession, turnovers and penalties. Can't let the defense get tired.
  7. Lamar definitely didn't play their best ball the last couple of games, but overall, it looks like a pretty even matchup. ACU has two wins that would make them the favorite, but then they have a bigger loss to UIW than Lamar did. I think it is a toss-up but I'm going to pick LU because of the defense.
  8. Afraid I'm going to have to watch the replay as I am going to be flying home Saturday. If I'm lucky I might catch the end of the game.
  9. Cards fall 83-68. Lamar will be home for the next three games including the first conference game on December 6th, but first a patsy game this Saturday with Lady of the Lake and then another quality opponent in La. Lafayette. USL for the old timers.
  10. Last media timeout and Lamar is down by thirteen. So far Oakland appears to have the poise needed to hang on from here.
  11. Maybe you can blame this on fatigue playing two days in a row and your opponent being rested, but I think you have to play smarter.
  12. Cards are playing terrible in the second half. Eight minutes left and down by twelve 66-54. Oakland shooting free throws again.
  13. Fourteen minutes left and Oakland is into the one and one with both East and White picking up their fourth fouls.
  14. Lamar down by three points at the half 31-34. Lamar has committed eleven fouls to six for Oakland. Oakland is 9-13 on free throws compared to 3-5 for Lamar. Rebounds are pretty even with LU -20 and Oak -19.
  15. Lamar goes stagnant on offense over the last four minutes, with turnovers and forced shots from the guards allowing Oakland to go on a 12-0 run to take a seven-point lead at the under four timeout. 29-22
  16. With 7:23 left in the first half Lamar is up 21-17. Cards have slowed down on the fouling and Oakland has now picked up a few.
  17. Lamar has worked it's way back into the lead with a couple of Gambrell three's. Lamar up 15-12 at the under twelve-minute timeout. Cards have five fouls in eight minutes.
  18. Today versus Oakland. Similar start to yesterday that four minutes in the two big men have committed three fouls. Lamar got off to an early lead but have given it up with turnovers and fouls. Oak up 9-7. Lee has taken three three-pointers making only one.
  19. Well, we can certainly screw that up.
  20. Maybe there could have been some more calls on Montana, but Lamar's defense is very aggressive and the big guys are picking up fouls when the guards get beat and they try to make the stop on the smaller driver by reaching.
  21. North Dakota was the third-place team in the MVFC conference, and they had a solid non-conference schedule. While I hate seeing the number of teams that conference got into the playoffs none of the four teams that had less losses had anywhere near the strength of schedule.
  22. Pennebaker stepped up big at the end of the game. Cards had three players in double figures, Holifield, East and Pennebaker with East getting a double double. Hopefully his first of many. Cards forced three more turnovers than Lamar committed and won almost all categories except fouls committed. Fortunately, Montana didn't make a high enough percentage of their free throw attempts.
  23. Good win by Lamar 68-63.
  24. Despite a low shooting percentage Lamar has played good defense keeping Montana's shooting percentage low also and have a two point lead at the half 23-21. Lamar is positive in the number of turnovers and Montana is shooting free throws poorly also. Lamar has two players with five points and two with four points. No one has taken over the scoring today.
  25. With today's results there are a total of 18 FCS teams with three or less losses and one of those is like fourth or fifth in their conference. So the question becomes do all of the three loss schools get in or how does the committee decide which four loss schools deserve to be in ahead of a three loss school. There were upsets in multiple conferences today.
