  1. Ladies continue to lead, expanding the lead to eleven points 28-17 at the half.
  2. Cards down by twelve at the half, but if they can control their turnovers and rebound a little more effectively this game is well within reach.
  3. At the under four-minute timeout Cards are down by nine points 24-15. In general the Cards are getting out hustled. Thirteen turnovers and getting out rebounded.
  4. Lamar off to a bad start. Cards have eight turnovers in the first ten minutes and shooting in the mid 30% range.
  5. After the first quarter Lamar is up 16-9. Only three Cards have scored so far, Dean has eight, Davis has six and Taylor has two.
  6. Investment in the baseball program is great. From the press release and the rendering provided it doesn't look like it is a direct part of the stadium. So while I think it is great to give the student athletes improved facilities, I hope it also improves the fan experience for those that attend the games.
  7. Men open a three-game string of games in Akron Ohio this evening beginning with Akron University at 5 PM this evening. The Zips currently sit at 1-2 on the season with losses to Arkansas St and St Mary's. This is potentially a winnable game but will take a strong effort. The rest of the weekend includes an evening game tomorrow versus Alabama State and a Sunday morning game versus Omaha. My opinion a good weekend will be to win two and winning all three would be great.
  8. Women return to action this afternoon 11/22 at SMU with a 4:30 PM tip off.
  9. Cards travel across the river to McNeese on Saturday for a 7 PM game. This will be the last game of the season and with a win Lamar will tie SFA for third place and a loss will move Lamar down to a tie for fifth place possibly with multiple teams. McNeese is sitting in the same place so add one more thing to the rivalry. Will it be a 7-5 season and the first time since the 1960's that Lamar has had two winning seasons in a row or a breakeven 6-6 and at least some disappointment compared to some expectations.
  10. Lamar falls by thirteen. 85-72
  11. After starting the game 1-10 from the field and getting down by as many as fifteen points nearly midway through the first half, Lamar finally starts hitting some field goals and tightening up their defense to close the gap to four points at the half. Sam Houston is up 41-37.
  12. Cards renew rivalry with Sam Houston with a 4 PM game against Sam Houston.
  13. Lamar wins 24-7. Next week Lamar will finish up at McNeese in a game with a lot to play for. The Cards are 6-5 overall and 3-3 in conference, so a winning record is still achievable and a tie for third place is possible. Ironically McNeese sits with the same record so they have a lot to play for also and it is a rivalry game on top of that. Game time next week is listed as 7 PM.
  14. With 6:27 left in the game Coleman connects with Gibbs for a touchdown and a 24-7 lead.
  15. Lamar goes sixty-six yards on their second possession of the second half ending in a touchdown pass from Coleman to Griffin. Fusilier had two big receptions on the drive. Cards up 17-7 with 5:55 left in the third quarter.
  16. Cards score first on a sixty-yard punt return in the first quarter, then get a field goal to take a 10-0 lead before a penalty on fourth down kept a Nicholls drive going and then on another fourth down the Nicholls punter fumbled the snap then picked it up and ran for a first down. That play led to a touchdown with a little over a minute and a half left in the half to close the gap to three points.
  17. Volleyball closes out regular season with a win at Nicholls guaranteeing a winning record at 15-13 and 7-9 in conference. Cards will qualify for conference tournament.
  18. Cards take on Nicholls tomorrow at 3 PM in their final home game of the season. A win will place Lamar with a fourth-place finish in their own control and a shot at tie for third place depending on SFA's finish. A loss may push Lamar down to as far as eighth.
  19. After a terrible first half, Lamar played Texas even in the second half although Texas rested their starters for a lot of it. The big difference was probably that Davis play most of the half, picking up only one more foul and scoring ten points in the half. Sabrea Dean added thirteen points for the game. Final score Texas 95 - Lamar 58. The ladies will return to action Friday the 22nd at SMU.
  20. Texas obliterating Lamar throughout the first half. Davis picked up two fouls in seven minutes of playing time which definitely didn't help. At the half Texas is up 51-14.
  21. Women return to action tomorrow at #4 Texas for a 7 PM start.
  22. Lamar falls by twenty-six, 97-71. Marmolejos scores 23, followed by 15 from Jackson and 13 from Holifield. Lamar doesn't have the player that can consistently drive and score. A&M had a distinct size advantage at the guards. As bad as this score was, I think this is a better team than last year overall, but this team could use a Terry Anderson type of player. Gambrell hasn't made it into a game yet. Is he hurt or something else?
  23. A&M woke up shortly after the previous post and started hitting three-pointers. 10 of 17 in the first half compared to one of eight for Lamar. Rebounding and field goal percentage the big difference as A&M is up 50-29 at the half.
  24. Early action Lamar playing solid defense and are up 3-0. Holifield looks impressive as he jumped for the opening tip, has a steal and has brought the ball up the court at least one time. A big man that is coordinated and can handle the ball.
  25. Men take on A&M at 7 PM this evening. Will be interesting to see how the new scorers do against tough competition.
