One thing for sure, SLU has as big-time home team bias as any school. Every foul called against SLU is questionable and every mishandled ball should have been a foul.
SLU up by six at the half. 40-34, difference in the game at the free throw line as SLU has six more made than Lamar. SLU also up by nine in rebounding. Jackson, White and Holifield each have two fouls.
Cards in a back-and-forth game with SLU trailing by four at the last media timeout of the first half. 36-32. Lamar has a trouble whenever the opponent has taller guards out front.
6:55 left in the game and the Lamar lead is down to five points. Lamar turnovers plus SFA hitting four three-pointers in the last four minutes has really tightened this game up.
Eight minutes into the second half and SFA has closed the gap to twelve points, 47-35. Lamar has six turnovers in the last eight minutes equal to the first twenty. Cards have to take care of the ball.
Lamar closes out the half by extending the lead to 41-24. Cards have six first half turnovers but have forced ten SFA turnovers. Lamar shooting 50% from the field for the half. Holifield leading the scoring with eight followed by Dawsey and Barrs with seven.
Similar start to first game as Lamar gets out to a seven-point lead at the under twelve-minute timeout. Cards have been taking care of the ball with only two turnovers so far. Cards up 17-12.
Men return to action at SFA Saturday with a 2 PM start. This is a chance for the Cards to revenge the home loss a couple of weeks ago. Since that game SFA has lost four more games and gotten one win against the worst team so far in the conference. SFA is still a dangerous team for the Cards as they haven't lost any players that I know of and they now have another reason to play hard in support of their former coach.
Lady Cards are unable to make a comeback falling by twelve-points 60-48. Unless something happens SLU should be the regular season champ as they will have to drop two contests for Lamar to get past the tie breaker.
SLU has the big third quarter that Lamar usually gets as they extend the half time lead to fourteen-points 48-34. Lamar will really need a strong quarter to come back in this game.
Game tied at fourteen after one quarter. SLU got out to the early lead then Lamar came back and got to as much as a 14-7 lead before SLU made another run to tie the game.
Ladies return to action this evening with a 6 PM start time from Hammond, La. against SLU. This game features the last two undefeated teams left in the conference race. This game is doubly critical as it will be the only meeting between these two teams before the conference tournament and will likely determine the number one seed. Go Lady Cards.
Lamar comes out in the second half and plays good defense and reasonable offense to pull out a ten-point win 69-59. Hamilton has a double-double with thirteen points and fourteen rebounds. A&M CC plays McNeese a really tough game but come up one point short. Their loss with the Lamar win moves the Cards into a tie for second in the conference with Corpus and HCU.
Cards play good for the first eight minutes, then get a little sloppy and shooting percentage goes down. NWST out rebounding the Cards and have a five-point lead at the half. Both teams have had as much as a nine-point lead at some point in the game. NWST up 33-28 at the half.
Men start the game with much better intensity than the last game. Lamar slowly works out to seven point lead at the under twelve-minute media timeout. Cards up 19-12
Ladies come out in the second half and turn the tables on NWST, tying the game up in the third quarter and then taking the lead and then holding on to get the win 59-55. Next up for the Cards is league leading SLU on Thursday evening in Hammond, La.
Ladies start out extremely slowly making only two field goals in the first quarter on eighteen attempts while NWST hits 6-8 three-point attempts before missing their last two. NWST up 20-9 after the first quarter.
Lamar takes on NWST this evening at 7 PM. LU and NWST are currently tied with SLU and HCU for third in the conference at 6-3 so the winner will remain tied with either SLU or HCU as they are playing each other tonight and the loser will drop into a multiple tie for fifth. Additionally, the winner will either move into a tie for second as McNeese and Corpus play each other or will move to just one game back of first place. Hopefully the Cards come out strong early and play to the top of their ability.
