Ladies win their second game of the day defeating Chattanooga 7-1. Doesn't look like the pitcher in the Morehead State game is ready. She is 0-3 pm the year. Play two more games tomorrow with games against Jackson State and host Southern Miss.
Cards open conference play hosting UTRGV this evening at 6 PM. UTRGV is the highest ranked team in the SLC. Cards need to come out strong and get conference play off to a good start.
Two weekends into the season and three mid-week games finds the Cards with a five and four record including two run rule losses to nationally ranked teams. The Conference season will start this coming weekend.
Lamar falls on a last few second's drive by Nicholls. Coaching mistake and or player execution. Lamar was up by one point with five seconds left and three fouls to give. If you use the fouls to use up the time Nicholls doesn't get the layup.
Monday evening against Nicholls finds the Cards up by three at the half, but it is not because LU is playing good. Lamar is shooting a miserable sub 30% from the field but the right players have shot free throws with Lamar making seven of eight. Lamar has the lead because Nicholls is shooting about the same as Lamar. Hopefully, Lamar will step it up in the second half.
Cards fall to UNO by a final of 77-71. The Cards have three games left and unless East makes it back, I doubt they win another game. If they don't make the tournament is that enough to get rid of Brooks. I know he got an extension last year but you can't say the program is headed in a good direction.
Lamar playing UNO without East and Wilhite, but hanging close, down three at the half 32-29. Not sure what is wrong with Wilhite, but they said East is out with an ankle injury and has been in a walking boot since Monday nights game.
Not the start of last year, but as always if you're not in a major conference it comes down to the end of the season and the conference tournament. Need both pitching and hitting to become more consistent.
Ladies win the first game of a five-game weekend event at UL Monroe defeating University of Pine Bluff 9-1 in five innings. Lamar will play University of Northern Iowa and UL-Monroe each twice over the next two days.
It's a little interesting that a more or less new twist is occurring in FBS as both of these moves are for football only. NDSU is a member of the Summit for all other sports. The Summit doesn't have enough football playing schools to have their own conference. Both the MVFC and Big Sky have football only members from other conferences with more than enough to maintain their automatic bids so neither should have to hunt for immediate replacements.
I read that North Dakota State has decided to join the Mountain West Conference making the move to FBS. Sacramento State is also making the move joining the MAC. One less school in the MVFC and Big Sky FCS conferences.
Lamar drops the third game 3-2 giving up the winning run in the top of the tenth. Cards had plenty of opportunities to push other runs across throughout the game but didn't get the job done. Next game is Tuesday at Texas and then back home Wednesday with Kansas.
Cards finish the first game with an 8-2 win and then come from behind to take a 9-7 win in the scheduled Saturday game. Cards pitching wasn't the best early giving up two runs in both the first and second innings and a run in the third to be down 5-1 after three innings. The Cards score at least one run in each of the next five innings including four in the bottom of the seventh. Lamar has a chance for the sweep tomorrow.
Lamar down big at the half in Corpus 38-22. Cards shooting a poor 30% from the field and one of seven from three-point range. Also getting out rebounded.
