  1. Cards play Texas close until the bottom of the eighth. The score was 4-2 at the end of seven and Lamar got a home run from Skinner to close the gap to one, but Lamar pitching ran out of gas in the bottom o the inning giving up five runs to fall by a final of 9-5. Cards will close out the regular season with a three game series at home against HCU beginning Friday at 6 PM. Cards need a sweep to guarantee the fourth seed.
  2. Lamar drops game three of the series with SLU and now has ten losses in SLC play. With three conference games remaining the best Lamar can do is fourth place and will need to win at least two of three against HCU and win at least the same number of games in the final series as Northwestern St does in their final series to hold on to fourth place.
  3. Cards had the bases loaded in both the first and second innings but could not get a run across and wind up falling 4-0 in the second game of the series with SLU. The loss along with the results of the other games today drops Lamar back into fourth place and with just four conference games remaining very little chance of moving up to second for a host site in the tournament.
  4. Lamar takes game one of the series with SLU 5-0 and now are only one game out in the loss column. Game two is tomorrow at 6 PM.
  5. Ladies keep their season alive with a 6-5 win over E TA&M. Evening game between UIW and McNeese postponed due to weather. Will need to see how that affects game time tomorrow.
  6. Lady Cards fall 4-0 to UIW in the opening game of the SLC Tourney. Cards will play ETA&M tomorrow at 3 PM in an elimination game.
  7. Lamar did change pitching coaches this year and I would agree that especially the second-tier pitching isn't as consistent as it was last year. But on the other end of the scale batting average is up overall.
  8. Lamar falls 13-6 at Texas A&M. The Cards scored a run in the top of the second to take the early lead but then gave up ten unanswered runs over the next four innings to be down by nine runs starting the top of the 7th. Neither team scored in the seventh and then in the top of the eighth the Cards scored five runs aided by a missed call by an umpire. A&M got three runs in the bottom of the inning and held Lamar in the top of the ninth for the win. Lamar travels to Hammond on Friday to take on Southeastern in a pivitol series for the conference. If Lamar can get another sweep they could enter the last week of the season tied for second at minimum, but that will be a tall order.
  9. Update per the SLC website which was updated following end of play on Sunday. Lamar is in fourth place by themselves, tied with UTRGV in the loss column but three games behind as RGV has played one more conference series than Lamar. Lamar is one game back of McNeese who is in second place with one less loss than Lamar and UTRGV and two games back of first place SLU who Lamar plays next weekend in Hammond, but before that that the Cards will travel to College Station for a mid-week game against the aggies on Tuesday evening.
  10. Lamar sweeps UNO with a run rule 13-3 performance Sunday afternoon. Cards move into a tie with McNeese for third place as UTRGV sweeps the Cowboys to move into first place with a twenty and seven conference record and only one conference series left. Lamar has two conference series left one with Southeastern and one with HCU. Cards will need to win both series and have a little help to get to the second place hosting spot.
  11. Lamar drops the rubber game of the final series with UIW and ends the regular season in fifth place.
  12. Cards win game two against UNO, guarantying a series win and with the four teams ahead of them in the standings playing each other a good chance to pick up a game in the standings. Cards go for the sweep tomorrow at 1 PM.
  13. In the second game on Saturday, UIW scores three in the first and three in the third before Lamar scores six in the fourth to tie the game. The game will go scoreless then until UIW gets a walk off hit in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
  14. Lamar takes opening game of final conference series of the year 4-3 in ten innings at UIW. UIW got out to a two run lead in the bottom of the first. The teams each scored a run in the third. The score sat there until Lamar got a two out home run in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Smith pitched eight and a third innings before giving way to Guidry. Lamar got the go ahead run a two out hit in the tenth. For UIW Jacquez pitched all ten innings with thirteen strikeouts on the day.
  15. Cards take game one of weekend series versus UNO with a bases loaded walk off hit in the bottom of the 10th. 4-3
  16. Cards split there two mid-week games with a loss to Houston and a victory over Prairie View A&M.
  17. Lamar announces another piece to the 25-26 season puzzle. Rob Lee is a transfer from Wayne State. Cardinals Hit Portal to Strengthen Backcourt - Lamar University Athletics Wayne State is a D-2 college. Probably similar to Dawsey from last year but a junior instead of a senior transfer.
  18. Northwestern State takes game three. This loss really hurts Lamar's chance for getting one of the two top seeds for the conference tournament and unfortunately probably also makes a really small chance of Lamar getting an at large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Cards still have three conference series to play and four mid-week games with three of them against Power Conference schools to close the regular season but the pitching will really need to step up.
  19. That will be up to those that haven't suited up yet as usual. If I remember correctly, Gambrell was a big-time scorer in high school. Christian Thomas averaged a double-double in high school and the latest signee Lowe's press release doesn't say much about scoring at minimum you would expect him to be good facilitator and defender. Also, assuming Knight is back he and a couple of other returners haven't lived up to the expectations yet although Knight in particular showed signs that he could.
  20. Cards fall in ten innings. 2-1 Missed a great opportunity to make up a game on two of the teams ahead of them in standings.
  21. If that is the case, then Lamar should be in a good position for another good year.
  22. Looking at last year's roster with what we know is gone and the two freshmen that I see coming in how many more players do the Cards have left to fill. Gone, Marmolejos transfer portal, Jackson graduation, Hamilton graduation, White graduation, Dawsey graduation. On the roster but didn't play this past year, so totally unknown what their impact may be, Gambrell and Jeffries. What about B. B. Knight, he was injured and even before that he wasn't delivering what he had the year before. Is he coming back? Looks to me like there are one or two more potential spots to fill. Am I missing something?
  23. Cards take game one of the series at Northwestern State 8-2.
  24. Softball takes game one of the double header with HCU 7-1 but drops the second game 11-10. Rubber game of the three-game series is at 3 PM Friday afternoon.
  25. Cards get a blowout win at Sam Houston for their mid-week game. Cards win 18-9 scoring six runs in the second, eleven in the seventh and one in the nineth. Sam scored two in the bottom of the first and then chipped their way back with one run in the third and then got four runs in the fourth to take back the lead. Sam added two runs in the sixth before Lamar blew the game open in the seventh. Cards will return to action Thursday at Northwestern State for the beginning of a three game series.
