Both men and women end their non-conference schedule at home tomorrow. Women tip off at 2 PM and men follow at 5 PM. I believe both are games that the teams should win and should be a good warm up for the conference openers next week.

  7. Started by geezer,

LSU doesn't have the typical power conference school record in the non-conference. They are currently 6-5 on the season which includes a loss to fellow SLC school Nicholls. The questions are was that a fluke, can Lamar compete, where does it look like Lamar ranks in the SLC? Game time is 8 PM. Cards will need to play much better than they did against USM to stay within ten points.

Big opportunity for the Cards Monday night. A win against Southern Miss and Lamar is in position to have a winning record at the end of the non-conference portion of the season. The game will be Southern Miss's third game in a row against SLC competition with a win over Northwestern St and a loss to McNeese. While you can never really judge how a team will stack up against common opponents, it will give some insight to where Lamar is compared to other SLC programs. Game time is 7 PM in Beaumont.

  16. Started by geezer,

With the previously announced non-conference games and the conference schedule announced this week, it is a really good thing to see that Lamar does not have any lower division programs on the schedule. Of the five non-conference games three of the schools had winning records for 2023, so definitely an opportunity to show real progress. Go Cards

  17. Started by coachacola,

The men play UTSA and SHSU on the road, then ULM and Southern Miss at home, then LSU on the road. If they win 3 of 5 then I will consider it a success. LSU is the toughest one and they lost to Nicholls and really haven't blown anyone out. SHSU is pretty good and they did beat Pacific. Southern Miss plays Northwestern State and McNeese before playing LU so that'll be a good gauge before conference play begins. Does anyone here think LU can win 4 or all 5 of these games?

The three games in the Longwood MTE will give a strong indication of how the rest of the year may go. All three of the teams Lamar will face are ones that the Cardinals should compete well against. Coming off the loss at Pacific, how will the Cards handle the next close game. I read through the play by play of the end of that game and there appeared to be very similar traits in the last few minutes to several of last year's losses, but how did the Cards let an 18-point lead slip down to that point. Pacific was a true road loss and two of these three are neutral court games, so the home court advantage isn't an excuse. Tipoff for Lamar's first game is 4:30.
