  1. UTRGV upsets McNeese hanging on for a two-point win after being ahead by twenty-three with about two minutes left in the first half.
  2. Men win 90-80 over Nicholls. Maybe the best shooting game of recent past as Lamar shoots 64% from the field including ten three pointers. Lee leads the Cards with twenty points.
  3. Cards maintain the lead through the first twelve minutes of the second half, leading 68-60 with 7:52 left in the game. Not shooting as well in the second half but are ahead in the second half turnovers so far.
  4. Lamar shoots an outstanding 71% from the field in the first half but only have a 45-40 lead. Nicholls has stayed in the game shooting a respectable 46% from the field and eight of ten from the free throw line where Lamar has only shot two free throws missing both of them. Lamar has two more turnovers than Nicholls.
  5. Mens game a tight one through the first twelve minutes. Nicholls up one at the under eight-minute timeout. 30-29
  6. Ladies get the win at Nicholls. 72-64
  7. Lamar up 49-45 going to the fourth quarter.
  8. Tight game of small runs finds Lamar women up by two points at the half. 32-30
  9. Ladies lead most of the first quarter, but a late run by Nicholls gives them the first quarter lead at 17-16
  10. Men and Women basketball play at Nicholls with the women tipping off first at 1 PM. The women won there Thursday game at UNO 72-56 to stay in a tie for second in the conference.
  11. Have to maintain at least what was accomplished this past season to really be considered elite by others. Do better still and Lamar can be a champion.
  12. Looks like these last three signees are bigger than the average at their position than Lamar has had.
  13. Cards get a win over HCU in Beaumont 64-56. Man, this team is hard to watch. HCU is in last place, but you would have thought Lamar was for the entire first half and into the second. First half Lamar was out scored, out rebounded, out hustled and committed more turnovers. That said Lamar was only down six at the half as neither team shot a good field goal percentage. In the second half, Rob Lee took over scoring wise with twenty-six second half points and a total of 31 to lead all scorers. Holifield made ten of his twelve points in the second half and Wilhite finished out the double figure scoring with ten points. Lamar was outrebounded by one for the game and had four more turnovers for the game than HCU. Lamar's shooting percentage was much better in the second half. Lamar travels to Nicholls Saturday afternoon and New Orleans next Monday for the next two games. Nicholls is currently atop the conference standings with a twenty plus point loss at McNeese.
  14. Both Lamar men and women get wins against UIW at home today. The ladies played this afternoon outscoring UIW in each of the first three quarters to get a 78-62 victory. The ladies were led by Wilson and Miner with 23 and 16 points perfectively. In the evening game the men got a 63-51 win in a game that was tighter than the final score reflected. East led the way for Lamar with 23 points and an archaistically low five rebounds. Lee and Holifield joined East in double figures with 13 and 11 points. Both teams played tough defense and kept the other from getting a lot of open looks.
  15. Good schedule. No lower division opponents, two FCS and one lower tier FBS opponents. I would say nine and three and another playoff berth should be the early expectation.
  16. Glad to see an emphasis on offensive linemen so far.
  17. Lamar unable to make a comeback and fall by eight points 60-52 at SLU. Lamar shot under 30% for the game, committed twenty-three fouls and twelve turnovers. Holifield finished with seventeen points, but Lamar only got seven points between Lee and East.
  18. Cards playing better in the second half but still not shooting great at 48% in the second half, still committing too many fouls. Cards seem to be a step slow tonight. Four minutes left and Lamar still down by ten 56-46.
  19. Cards close out the first half down by twelve points 36-24. Lamar shoots a terrible 18% for the first half and commit eleven fouls and six turnovers.
  20. Cards playing poorly in the first part of this game down by seventeen points with 8:11 left in the first half. Cards ar shooting a miserable 17% so far and have committed seven fouls.
  21. Cards are at SLU this evening. SLU up 11-8 at the first media timeout.
  22. Second half was a battle royal, with McNeese getting an 82-70 win. Lamar did a good job of taking care of the ball committing a total of ten turnovers for the game. McNeese ended the game with one more total rebound, but Lamar had five more offensive rebounds. Ultimate difference in the game was field goal shooting percentage as McNeese shot about 48% and Lamar managed only 33%. Lamar definitely competed and if the Cards can continue to play the way they did tonight Lamar should be in real good position come the end of the season.
  23. Cards down by five at the half 39-34. Cards were playing even with McNeese until an about six-minute period from about the eleven-minute mark to the five-minute point where they committed four turnovers. McNeese's defense stepped their game up and field goal percentage both over the last twelve minutes of the half.
  24. Good start for Lamar up 11-10 at the first media timeout.
  25. Cards are in Lake Chuck to take on McNeese in the first men's basketball match up for this basketball season. The last two years the Cards have played McNeese tough but have come up short. It will take an excellent performance to get a win this evening, but Lamar may have enough pieces to pull it off if they come out really focused and ready to play from the opening tipoff. The emergence of Wilhite and Lowe in the scoring area can take some of the pressure off the bigger players. The one piece I think Lamar is still missing is the six five to six seven player that can drive to the basket and go up with the strength to score at the goal while absorbing fouls.
