  1. Looks like there are three good sized linebackers in the early signees and a D-lineman that might be able to play linebacker. Lamar doesn't have a bruiser back capable of getting yards up the middle without a good hole, way too many runs stuffed up the middle. The offense has to be complimentary between runs and passes.
  2. Not going to say the skill positions don't need to improve, but the most important improvements need to be both lines. No back can consistently run the ball for positive yards without a lane to run through and no quarterback can be an accurate passer without protection. That's the o-line. The D-line has to apply pressure to the opponents.
  3. It will require strong pitching and hitting to win forty for a third straight year with this schedule. Good for Davis to challenge himself and his players. Every opponent looks like a quality one.
  4. My opinion, at his age, East may be the best post player Lamar has had since Gulley. He has a decent jumper, defense is improving steadily, inside game is fair, he is athletic and agile, is getting rebounds and is getting better every game.
  5. Good second half for the Cards, winning 65-55.
  6. Cards have kept the pressure on and have built an eight-point lead with 3:47 left in the game 56-48.
  7. After being behind most of the game, the Cards have tied it up at 43 with 11:38 left.
  8. I count eleven at this point and all but one who has been listed as committed since the start of the fall campain.
  9. Cards take on UL-Lafayette at 6 PM this evening. Cards look for another win against a good D-1 program at home before the SLC opener against A&M Corpus Christi this coming Saturday.
  10. Five signed so far this morning, none of the above listed have signed yet.
  11. Ladies win opener 67-59. Was a game of spurts as Lamar got out to a lead but RGV came back to tie the game up at the end of one. Lamar outscored RGV by five in the second quarter for a five-point half time lead 27-22. The third quarter was RGV's as they took a two-point lead by the end of the quarter 44-42. Lamar came back strong in the fourth quarter for a 67-59 win. Denley led the way for Lamar with 15 points, followed by Wilson and Olenga with 13 each. Olenga also got 10 rebounds for a double double.
  12. Lamar women open SLC play at home versus UTRGV.
  13. Cards up 58-15 at the half. Ten of the twelve Cardinal's that have played so far have at least two points. Rob Lee is the leading scorer making 7 of 8 three-point attempts. Holifield is the next high scorer with nine points on four of seven attempts. East has ten rebounds at the half.
  14. Game going as expected with Lamar up 36-11 at the 8:06 mark of the first half. Best news of the game is BB Knight is on the floor playing. BB is 0-2 from the field but has two assists in four minutes of play and two for two from the free throw line.
  15. Men host Lady of the Lake at 6:00 in what should be a make us feel good game.
  16. Bad news for the SLC, Southeast La lost to MVFC fifth place team Illinois St at home. SLC teams have to win against these better perceived FCS conferences.
  17. I was in the air flying back for most of the game but was able to keep up with it. Glad Lamar got to the playoffs, but at the same time how many of thought that with the schedule Lamar had to start the year that eight wins would be a good year. Hard to say what effect injuries played overall, but again that's something most teams have to deal with to some extent. There is still a lot of room for the program to improve. I think Lamar needs at least one big bruiser back that can always get at least one yard even if there is no blocking. The offensive line still needs to take another step up in quality. The same is probably true for the defense. You have to be able to make a first down or score on one yard to go and Lamar failed to do so multiple times in today's game and over the last two or three games. Hopefully McCown stays, recovers fully from whatever nagging injuries he has been playing with and can step up his passing game next year.
  18. There are three statistics that you almost always need to win to win the game. Time of possession, turnovers and penalties. Can't let the defense get tired.
  19. Lamar definitely didn't play their best ball the last couple of games, but overall, it looks like a pretty even matchup. ACU has two wins that would make them the favorite, but then they have a bigger loss to UIW than Lamar did. I think it is a toss-up but I'm going to pick LU because of the defense.
  20. Afraid I'm going to have to watch the replay as I am going to be flying home Saturday. If I'm lucky I might catch the end of the game.
  21. Cards fall 83-68. Lamar will be home for the next three games including the first conference game on December 6th, but first a patsy game this Saturday with Lady of the Lake and then another quality opponent in La. Lafayette. USL for the old timers.
  22. Last media timeout and Lamar is down by thirteen. So far Oakland appears to have the poise needed to hang on from here.
  23. Maybe you can blame this on fatigue playing two days in a row and your opponent being rested, but I think you have to play smarter.
  24. Cards are playing terrible in the second half. Eight minutes left and down by twelve 66-54. Oakland shooting free throws again.
  25. Fourteen minutes left and Oakland is into the one and one with both East and White picking up their fourth fouls.
