  1. Ladies keep things going with a with 68-52 win over McNeese in Lake Charles.
  2. Lamar wins 67-53. Nicholls outscored Lamar by one point in the fourth quarter, but part of that was that the Cards obviously slowed down their offensive intensity and therefore did not get the same quality of shots that they got during the third quarter. Dean led the way with nineteen points, followed by Denley with thirteen and Taylor with ten.
  3. After three quarters the Cards lead 55-40. Davis played five minutes before picking up her third foul and helped get Lamar going with sound defense and her rebounding. When she went out Lamar kept building the lead and playing solid defense holding Nicholls to nine points for the quarter.
  4. Tough first half finds Lamar down three 31-28. Cards got out to an eight-point lead but then stalled out. Nicholls came back with a 9-2 run to take the lead at the end of the first quarter. Davis picked up two fouls in the first quarter, only playing about seven minutes of the half. Davis and Dean only have two points each only scoring from the free throw line.
  5. Alvin Brooks Receives Ben Jobe Award Mid-Season Honors - Lamar University Athletics While I see progress, I don't see Brooks being anywhere close to this level.
  6. Women play at Nicholls tonight with a 6:30 PM tipoff.
  7. Well at least next Saturday whatever happens it will be against a good team. McNeese should win by twenty.
  8. First half was very similar to the SFA game. Up by a substantial margin then playing sloppily and losing the early lead. Game tied at the half.
  9. I've watched for years at all levels and so many times the extremely aggressive man to man defensive teams seem to get the breaks especially when the game is called on the loose side, even to the point that the less aggressive team gets called for fouls that the more aggressive team isn't called. Oh well, the bad news is the Cards really don't have any off time for coaches to try to address in practice mistakes made, good news is the Cards get a chance to get the bad loss out of their system with a win Monday evening in the last game of this homestand. The Cards take on UNO at 7PM. UNO is at the bottom of the conference standings.
  10. Lamar came back a little but, in the end, made too many mistakes. Lumberjacks played like they always do, with extreme aggressiveness on defense and get the breaks. Final score 72-63. Lamar has one more home game on Monday with UNO to get back on the winning track before going back on the road.
  11. SFA opens the second half with an eight-point run to take a three-point lead in the first two minutes. Lamar takes a timeout, hopefully Brooks can settle the Cards down and get this turned around.
  12. SFA goes on a 9-0 run to close the gap. Lamar ends the half up five 37-32.
  13. Made to the third media timeout and the Cards are up by ten, 22-12 with the ball.
  14. Lamar gets the early lead 10-6 at the first media timeout.
  15. SFA hits a three-pointer with 9.5 seconds left to pull within one point 75-74. Fouls Dean with six seconds left. She hits both free throws and SFA is unable to make their last attempt. Cards win 77-74. Ladies remain a half game back of SLU in the standings as SLU won again to move to 6-0 on the season.
  16. 32 seconds left, Lamar has the lead by two points and the ball. 71-69
  17. 1:45 left in the game with Lamar up by three points.
  18. SFA outscores Lamar in the third quarter to tie the game at 50.
  19. Tight first half with Lamar up by two points, 34-32. Lamar shooting better from the field, but SFA has eight more free throws made than Lamar. Lamar took pretty good care of the ball with only six turnovers.
  20. Time for game three of this homestand. Cards will play SFA at 6 PM January 11th. While SFA is currently 0-4 in conference action Lamar needs to avoid thinking that SFA is potentially an easy win.
  21. Final score 94-52 Lamar on top. Cards hold UNO to single digits in the first and fourth quarters. With big wins, it is kind of picky to look for negatives, but the coaches will, so free throw percentage was lower than normal, and first half turnovers. Ladies will take on SFA Saturday afternoon beginning at 3 PM.
  22. Lamar up 76-43 going into the fourth quarter.
  23. Lamar outscores UNO 22-8 in the first quarter.
  24. The Ladies return to action this evening taking on UNO. UNO is currently 0-3 in conference action. Tip-off is at 7PM
  25. Lamar will face SFA Saturday evening at 6 PM. SFA is off to a bad start in conference, but this is another rivalry type game. Lamar is tied with McNeese for first in the conference standings so far.
