  1. Cardinal defense hangs on holds McNeese out of the end zone on a third and goal from about the two yard line and then block the field goal attempt as the clock runs out to end the first half. Game still tied at 7-7 with Lamar to receive the second half kickoff.
  2. After getting the ball at their own forty-nine, McNeese executes a good drive ending in an eight yard run by the quarterback for a touchdown with 6:55 left in the half to tie the game at 7-7.
  3. Cards defense holds forcing a turnover on downs keeping McNeese off the score board.
  4. Mostly stalled offense for both sides for most of the rest of the first quarter until Lamar throws and interception and McNeese uses a trick pass play to set up a first and goal at the Lamar four-yard line at the end of the quarter.
  5. Good start for Lamar, defense holds McNeese three and out on their opening possession. Cards then go 74 yards in five plays capped by a McCown to Jones touchdown pass for the early 7-0 lead with 10:36 left in the first quarter.
  6. Time for everyone to take it to the next level. A lot of history can be made tomorrow. Chance to win nine games for the first time as a four-year school, first time since the 60's to defeat McNeese three years in a row. Playoff spot. Go BIG RED
  7. Does Coleman not being listed indicate his injury is bad enough to make him unavailable for tomorrow?
  8. Is it that it's not right or that it's not large enough because Rosso usually uses more than three running backs and receivers. I don't pay enough attention to the defense as to how many deep he uses.
  9. Well the SLC standings are final. Both SFA & SLU won tonight to solidify the final football standings. Lamar will be the third-place team win or lose.
  10. Might be a really difficult game. On paper McNeese looks like they should be easy but if you look at the schedule they played after the mid-year losses to SFA and SLU they appear to be playing better including a two-score loss last week to RGV. Lamar struggled more than they should have with RGV and the rivalry with McNeese adds more motivation for the Cowboys. Hopefully Lamar comes out ready to play and puts them away quickly.
  11. Holifield lead Lamar with 23-points followed by East with fifteen. Biggest negative is nineteen fouls which if ULM would have shot better from the line could have made this a different game.
  12. Cards pull away and win 79-66.
  13. 1:44 left and Lamar commits another foul up by eight.
  14. Lamar making mistakes committing fouls to stop the clock and give up free throws to ULM. Got to stop the fouls.
  15. Lamar went on another run to get the lead out to a reasonable distance but then stumbles their way to the last media timeout has the Cards only up by five points. 69-64
  16. Lamar up 58-55 with eight minutes left in the game.
  17. At the half Lamar is up 40-27. Lamar playing solid defense forcing nine turnovers and holding ULM to 36% field goal shooting for the half. Holifield has sixteen points followed by Pennebaker with eight. Lamar has five turnovers.
  18. 7:21 left in the first half and the Cards are up 27-16. Holifield leads all scorers with fourteen at this point in the game.
  19. Lamar has the early lead at 11-6 with a media time out and the ball going to ULM. Holifield is three of five from three point range.
  20. Most rankings have Lamar in a similar range. Just win and Lamar is in the post season.
  21. Lamar men travel to UL Monroe for a 6:30 PM tip off tonight. ULM is currently 1-3 with there one win over a non-D1 opponent and a loss to fellow SLC member HCU. This is a perfect opportunity for Lamar to get a road win and get rid of the sour taste from the loss at TCU.
  22. Before today's games the MVFC was projected to have six teams make the playoffs, but I can't see them getting that many in. At max they will only have five teams with four or less losses. If Lamar wins next week, then there will be four conferences with three teams with three losses or less and the MVFC will only have two teams with less than three losses. If that is the case there is no way the MVFC should get more than three in. If these five conferences were to each get three in then that would leave nine spots for the other six conferences and a couple of those will have two teams with three or less losses.
  23. The difference I see between McCown and Coleman at qb is McCown is better under pressure at either getting a pass off or avoiding the big sack. After McCown's initial possession effort, he started hitting some passes and getting some positive yards when he was pressured with the pass rush. Looking at next week, RGV came back and defeated McNeese after going down 10-0 in the first quarter. Next week is a game that Lamar should win if they show up and play. The fact that Lamar probably has to win to get a play off spot should help motivate them.
  24. SFA defeats Lamar to claim at least a tie for the conference championship and force Lamar into a probable must win game against McNeese to get a chance for a playoff berth.
  25. Lamar comes back with a solid drive resulting in a touchdown with 4:14 left and convert the two-point conversion to close the gap to 26-15.
