Lamar returns to action with a noon tip off at Lafayette against the Cajuns. Lamar out to an early lead 7-2.

Ladies play at UTRGV tomorrow at 2 PM.

Still need all conference teams upping their schedules and winning against D-1 competition.

Both Tarleton State and Abilene Christian had leads in their games but came up short in the end.

Cards shot 57.8% from the field including 46.2 from the three-point line. Lamar had more assists than turnovers and won the battle of the boards by six. Really no area that Lamar didn't play a good game in today. If I am looking for something to criticize at all it would be that White needs to be a little more aggressive on offense. He seems to look more to give up the ball than score, which when the opponent recognizes that has a tendency to lead to a turnover. Four players in double figures for Lamar.

Maybe not quite as good of second half as the first, but nothing to complain about as Lamar wins 84-52.

Marmolejos leads the Cards with ten points followed by nine each from both Jackson and Holyfield. Holyfield also leads Lamar in rebounding with five. Cards are shooting 55% compared to 30% for UTRGV and Lamar is taking care of the ball with only five turnovers.

Lamar plays an outstanding first half despite both Hamilton and Bulajic sitting most of the half with two fouls each. Hamilton played a total of six minutes and Bulajic played four. Lamar is up 46-23 at the half.

UIW avoids the bye week jinx with a 13-6 win over Villanova. UIW will play South Dakota State in a rematch of their week 2 loss to the defending champs.

Lamar defeats UL-M 71-60. Good game for the ladies as even though Davis got into foul trouble and the Cards played much of the game without her in the lineup, the ladies still were able to pull out to a stable lead. Galloway, Hill and Minor all got significant playing time and made good contributions.

Conference game two. UTRGV joins the SLC and brings another competitive program. RGV currently sitting at five and three with a conference win over SFA. Overall, their non-conference schedule looks tougher than Lamar's so this should be a tough game.

Good tough schedule with no patsy games.

Twenty-two non-conference games prior to the first conference game with McNeese and none of them appear to be a sure winner. I agree that this is a tough schedule and the kind that if they can compete it can really prepare them for conference.

Cardinals will return to action Saturday afternoon at UTRGV with a 4:30 start time.

Lamar wins 65-61. Lamar had four more turnovers than Corpus but Corpus failed to make a three point shot the entire game and only shot 56.5 % from the free throw line. Also their second half field goal percentage was down in the low 30s.

Hamilton fouls out with 16 seconds left, the Cards up by four and CC shooting free throws.

Cards now up by two points 61-59 with a minute left and the ball in the front court. Lamar has twenty seconds on the shot clock.

Cards cut the lead down early in the half, then Corpus extended it back to eleven before Lamar slowly chipped away until Lamar got the lead with just under five minutes left. Lamar up by three points 60-57 with 4:07 left.

Lamar down by nine at the half, 42-33. Turnovers the number one problem for Lamar, defense number two. Islanders shooting 55% from the field but haven't made a three pointer yet.

Men open the conference season at Corpus Christi tomorrow at 7 PM. Corpus has a 5-3 record but it is hard to compare the schedules. Maybe the tough non-conference schedule will prove to help Lamar.

Lamar signed fourteen freshman recruits on signing day. Seven on offense and seven on defense. The group includes one quarterback, two wide receivers, two d-line and three o-line.
