OK not to pile on here but an observation. Regarding Gilligan baseball and Davis baseball. I started school at Lu in '80. I didn't play but was close to the team back then, even the New Yorkers! (One of them was in my wedding!!) I believe Gilligan recruited different guys during his tenure. Generally, it always seemed Gilligan looked for strapping 6'2"-6'4 guys at all positions who'd in turn grow stronger as they matured. Are the current guys maxed out physically more or less upon arrival? Bunch of corner infielders, outfielders and pitchers under 6' Makes a difference

The Cards enter the final week in seventh place with a three-game lead over this weekend's opponent HCU. The good news is the only way Lamar doesn't make the post-season is by getting swept by HCU. The bad news is that Lamar has been so inconsistent this year and the make-up of the conference tournament places a lot of doubt for Lamar doing much in the tourney. Lamar does have one non-conference game left against former WAC member UTRGV on Tuesday.

For the last couple of weeks, I have been monitoring the transfer portal. Last year coach Brooks signed 11 players and not one was from the transfer portal. I have seen Lamar as interested in at least 5 guys that are either Dll or Dl transfers. The players average between 25 and 17 PPG. Except for McNeese transfer Jonathan Massie, who averaged 10.5 PPG. Honestly, I think adding the right transfer guy is the way to go since LU only has a couple of scholarships available. What are some of your thoughts regarding adding a player or players from the transfer portal? Coach Brooks signed Jayden Barrs a 6-1 G from Manor HS in the early signing period. He was ranked a…

The women's track team won the SLC outdoor meet. Exceptional performance by them. The men came in next to last, hopefully the women's performance is signs of things to come for the men also.

With a first game win against A&M Commerce the Cards secure the seventh seed in the SLC tournament. If the ladies were able to sweep the weekend they could wind up .500 conference record.

Cards sweep the Lions over the weekend to jump up to fourth place. Cards have two series left while two of the three teams ahead of them have three series left. Lamar takes on McNeese next weekend whom they are tied with. Softball took two of three this weekend to build a two game advantage for seventh place and will finish up against last-place Commerce.

Softball takes two out of three versus HCU while baseball blows an opportunity to right the ship dropping their series with Corpus. Lamar relief pitching fails again. This year has become very disappointing.

Cards win 9-6 at TCU. Hail gets the win, he came in in the bottom of the fourth with no one out and the bases loaded. Hail allowed one run to score on a sacrifice fly before striking out the next two batters to get Lamar out of the inning with a one run lead. Hail pitched three more innings giving up one more run after Lamar stretched the lead to 9-5 to get the win. Mostly typical mid-week pitching plan for Lamar using a total of eight pitchers.

Game one similar to last week. Cards manage to get to the sixth inning with a two-lead. Change pitchers in the bottom of the seventh and give up one run, but still have a lead. Bottom of the eighth, combination of fielding error and pitching, Cards give up six runs to go down by five. Lamar gets three runs in the ninth but not enough. Disappointing, game two tomorrow at 2PM,

Cards fall 5-2. Lamar used eight pitchers over eight innings. Looks like a combination of too high of ERAs for the Lamar pitchers and not high enough batting averages is going to make for an unsettled season.
