Lamar baseball was picked to finish 3rd behind McNeese and SELa in the SLC Preseason Baseball Poll. New Orleans was a close 4th. There was a pretty good gap between the top 4 teams and the rest of the conference. 1st game for the Cards will be versus Oakland at Vincent-Beck on Friday, February 17.

Both Ladies and Men lost last Saturday at NSU, with the ladies falling by two points and the men by fifteen. A win by the ladies will get them fourth place alone and for the men a win will probably get them to 8th place and the last spot for the tournament at this point in the season. Granted both will need to continue to win in order to assure the best seeding possible. Ladies tip off at 3 PM followed by the men at 6.

Both men and ladies are in Lake Chuck tonight to take on McNeese. The women are currently in sixth place and behind McNeese. A win will move Lamar into a tie with McNeese. The men are in last place at 10th, tied with McNeese in the loss column and must get to 8th place to make the SLC tourney. Lamar men, must take care of the basketball by cutting down on the turnovers and play solid defense. Ladies tip off at 5 PM.

Ladies and Men's teams both play at UNO this evening. Ladies tip off at 5 PM and men at 7 PM. Men will most likely start late but even when the game is on time, they have started late most of the year.

LU is sitting at 4-8 and is rated 360 out of 363 D1 schools. Does Brooks have what it takes to get to #363? Time will tell!! https://masseyratings.com/cb/compare.htm

Lamar opens SLC play at home against McNeese. I guess the number one question is, is this the start of the climb from the bottom or a continuation toward the worst of the worst. Cards lost at McNeese by nine points in a mid-November non-conference game. Lamar was coming off of seven-point overtime game the day before and overall, Lamar has played dismally since. Second question is, are Lamar's injured players healed up and ready to go?

Lamar closes out the nonconference schedule Tuesday evening at home against Pacific. Pacific is ranked 253, so Lamar should be in for another beat down. Hard to figure out their roster, it shows 25 players have played, but they don't have a lot of height. Pretty good mix of classes.

Lamar travels to ULM on Saturday. With only two games left until conference, this may give us an idea of the chance of being more than a bottom tier team in conference. Sam Houston defeated ULM by 26 this week and Lamar played Sam close at least once last year. ULM last two games are losses to Northwestern St and Sam Houston. They don't have any of what I would consider quality wins, so maybe there is a chance.

So what does everyone think about yesterday's bombshell? The WAC/ASUN members plan to move up to FBS in 2024 as a football-only conference. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this. I do think that other FCS leagues will follow suit and try to make the jump to FBS as well.

This game is already ugly and only a few minutes into it. Lamar has four turnovers in the first four minutes. Cards are trying to force the ball inside, but the Lamar big players aren't doing anything offensively. Calmese didn't take a shot until the mid-fourteen-minute mark.

Did anyone else see Chad Cooper's article about LU football in The Examiner? Geeeezusss!!! He says the first call by our AD should be to Dultz!!! (Mike Schulz). Ugggh...that is a BIG NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! The other name is Barbay. Not sure what the big infatuation with him is. Although, I do like his ties to the area and the University.
