The NCAA has ruled that all Spring Sport athletes will be granted an additional year of eligibility with no stipulations. Basketball and indoor track/field are not included. Also waves scholarship limits for the seniors. As far as Lamar is concerned most Spring Sports do not have a bunch of seniors with the exception of men’s track and field (6). I believe baseball had 3 & softball has 2. Not sure about tennis and golf. A full scholarship at Lamar costs the Athletic Department about $25k/ year, so if the athletes will stay another year (even though most are on partial scholarships), the financial cost to Lamar would probably in the neighborhood of $250k. And the …

Thoughts on when/if the Cardinals should fly the coop to a new conference? The American South Conference was a good conference them, in my opinion. But the trips to places like Bowling Green, KY... Orlando and Jacksonville, FL... and others were a financial drain after the merger with the Sun Belt. The current configuration of the Southland has numerous schools that aren't exactly adding much to the conference in: quality of facilities, revenue added through TV ratings and/or attendance (home or away). I feel things are different from 1987 when they formed the old ASC... then again, if the ASC hadn't merged with the Sun Belt, the Cardinals might have never returned…

Tulane won the first game last night 14-12. Lamar had leads of 8-6 and 10-9 but the relievers couldn't hold it. Lamar gave up two runs in each of the last four at bats for Tulane. Game two this evening at 6:30.

Was selected Distirict 21 - 6A MVP. Congratulations to him on an outstanding season. With Lamar losing TJ Atwood, it's awesome to have another great player from Beaumont joining the Cardinals.

Following Wednesday's games Lamar men are tied with Northwestern St for fifth place at 10-9 and a game back of Sam for fourth. Saturday Lamar women play at 2:00 followed by the men at 4:30. The men are in position to get into a tie for fourth place Saturday as Sam closes their season out at SFA and Lamar has McNeese at home. While this game probably isn't a must win for Lamar it is for McNeese so LU better be ready to play. McNeese has to win or have a UCA or AMCC loss plus be on top of the tie breaker to make the tourney. For Lamar it is mostly about seeding, but considering SFA is obviously favored to defeat Sam, depending on the tie breaker with a win Lamar could …

This Saturday the Lamar men and women play a double header against SFA in Nacogdoches. Women are up first at 2:00 PM playing for pride as the Lady Cards are mathematically eliminated from the SLC Tourney. The men's game follows and while it is not an absolute must win for the men versus the conference leading team, a loss will possibly make next weeks McNeese game a must win. The men are currently sitting in 5th place with a 10-8 record, but depending on just how the season finishes out and how all of the tie-breaker rules work, the men could wind up anywhere from 4th to 9th. Two wins probably places the in 6th at worst. Two losses will probably put the Cards in 8th …

Men are at home with an opportunity to guarantee a SLC Tourney bid after the win last Saturday. A win will put UIW with eleven losses and AMCC is at UNO and UNO win would leave AMCC with eleven losses. Ladies are in San Antonio. For the ladies they are looking to put a positive close to this season.
