Cards win game one of the series 3-1. Cards got two runs in the first on a hit and two TXST errors. Michael pitch six scoreless innings with six strike outs. Cards got their third run in the top of the ninth before giving up one run charged to Olivarez who walked the lead off hitter followed by a single, a wild pitch from Dallas in relief. Dallas then got out of the inning with a foul ball, a fielders choice that gave up a run, a walk and a strike out to end the game. Game two is Saturday at 2:30.

At 1:00:20 seconds into the ESPN+ broadcast,at halftime, of the LUWBB game, Coach Morgan said that he had just hired a Beaumont local. He is bringing in a new DC and some of the coaching staff at SDSU. The 2020 LU coaching staff is going young. I would imagine the announcements coming shortly.

Women play at 2:00 PM followed by men at 4:30. Both teams need a win today having bot lost at Corpus. For the women they need to win out and hope for a enough losses of the two teams immediately above them in the standings to make the tourney. If the men can win today and next Wednesday against UIW that should give them 8th place at minimum. Men are currently tied for sixth in the win column but also are tied for 8th in the loss column. AMCC and UIW or currently 9th and 10th in the standings both of which have nine losses.

PU Stadium is in need of turf replacement within the next 2 years. It was 10 years old this past June and has met it’s expected life. Turf fields are usually in poor shape in outdoor stadiums on the gulf coast after 10 years due to wear and UV deteriation to seams and and plastic blades. Life expectancy is shorter if the field is not maintained (groomed and vacuumed) on a regular basis. Lamar’s field has been groomed about every 3 weeks during the season and a in-depth grooming and leveling prior to the season. Currently Lamar is about $400k short from paying for new turf and installation. The turf being considered is a new state of the art turf that has a peak temperat…

Both the men and women won the first round this year versus HBU. Both games begin at 2:00 PM today, with the men at home and the women away. Despite the wins in the January this outing will still be tough for both squads. Go Cards!

Cardinal basketball teams will take on ACU for the 2nd time this season. The ladies will be at home with a 2:00 PM start, having dropped their earlier game by six in Abilene. The men are on the road for the return match at 7:00 PM. It will be another tough game for the men after dropping the home game. At this point in the season every game for both LU squads is a must win to make the tourney. The men may be in a little better shape as they are currently tied for sixth place. The men have a .500 win percentage against the remaining schedule. If the men repeated the .500 record in the remaining games, I'm doubtful that will be enough to make the tourney. The ladies…

Women are in Conway tonight while the men are home versus UCA at 7:00 PM. UCA men have been somewhat inconsistent this year with a couple of good wins against the better SLC teams and a couple of bad losses. I don't think there are any unwinnable games for LU against SLC competition but every game is a tough game. Hope the Cards are ready. Women are in a similar boat as LU and UCA have identical records to this point in the season.

WBB and MBB play at 1:00 and 3:30 this afternoon. Women look to be in a game they should win based on records. Men will be in for a tough match as McNeese is currently 7-3 in conference.

Women are at home while men are in San Antonio. 7:00 PM start times for both. Will tonight be the start of a turnaround for the men or will it continue to be a disappointment?

Should be tough games for both. AMCC women are currently a half game ahead of LU and the Cards are on the road again. AMCC Men are two and five in conference but the teams they have defeated are Northwestern St and SFA. Since LU already lost to NWST you can't assume anything.

Nov 24 2019 (30 rankings) The Top SLC teams: 193 LU (2-2 against D1 teams, best win against #178 Utah Valley, Duquesne still undefeated) 195 SHSU (0-3 against good D1 teams) 206 SFA (3-1 against D1 teams, best win against #216 Drexel, lost at Rutgers) 221 Nicholls St (2-4 against D1 teams, best win against #114 Pittsburgh, OT loss to Illinois and 10-point loss to LSU) New Orleans is the best of the worst at 281. https://www.masseyratings.com/cb/compare.htm Note: I think this early in the season a lot of these rankings use last year's records for a large part of their calculations but that decreases as the season progresses.

Lamar MBB host the Bearkats at 7pm tonight at the Montagne Center. Sam is the preseason favorite to win the SLC and are currently tied for 3rd place. WBB has Lady Cards at SHSU with a 6:30pm tip-off.
