Lamar kicked off the football season last night with the legendary "Bum" Phillips speaking at their annual banquet. I've attended every LU football banquet since they brought football back and it gets better every year. Definitely more tables filled than last year. Bob West introduced Coach "Bum" Phillips and "Bum" had some great one liners and gave Coach Woodard some advice on what type of players to recruit. Players that will do what you tell them to do. He also commented that Lamar’s football facilities should be a great recruiting tool and one of the best he has ever seen. Kudos to whomever put this banquet together. It was a top notch production.

I know that this Lamar team will probably be the most exciting I can remember since the '81 team. What can we expect to see though? Is the offense going to be wide open, no huddle? Are we going to chunk it or run it? What else can we expect to see, not to see? Can't wait!

Here's my prediction for the starting lineup against UL-L: Offense LT - Brock (RS-FR) LG - Gillam (JR-2L) C - Kelso (JR-2L) RG - Robertson (SR-1L) RT - Collins (SR-1L) QB - Mossakowski (JR-TR) RB - Sims (SO-TR) TE - McVey (SO-IL) WR - Johnson (SO-TR) WR - Ford (JR-2L) WR - Franks (SR-2L) Moss, Sims, Johnson were highly touted out of HS. Offensive line is a big question mark at this time. Sims, Garrett Harris and Harmon gives the team a lot of depth at RB that they've never had before. How much playing time do guys like Soto, Venson and Ploch get? Defense NT - Dorsey (SR-2L) DE - Dickson (JR-2L) DE - Okafor (SO-TR) ILB - Washington (JR-2L) ILB …

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome all the Lamar fans that will be traveling to Lafayette Saturday to attend the game against the Cajuns. I am old enough to remember the days when Lamar was a regular on the Cajun schedule and am looking forward to once again playing the Cardinals. For those who are interested, I'd like to invite any of you to come by us at the "Krewe de Chew" tailgate site for some real good fun. I think those that come by will not regret it and we will certainly show you a good time. For a little preview of what to expect, you might want to visit our website at http://www.krewedechew.net to see what we are all about! We always welcome visit…

Biggest news was seeing #64 at LG and not under center. That's right, Kyle Gilliam was playing LG with Ian Kelso moving to center. More details to come. Team was in shells today in an attempt to get some guys healthy. Lots of Cards dinged up with the added practices this week Herschel Sims was missing from practice today due to a family issue. Nothing major and will be back next week for school and ready for UL-L. I've been missing practice this week due to work so it was good to see BJ Oyefeso out there working out today. Quick work today due to the monsoon that blew in towards the end of practice. Injury Notes: As mentioned above many guys were hel…
