THE HOME FOR LU SPORTS TALK

Lamar kicked off the football season last night with the legendary "Bum" Phillips speaking at their annual banquet. I've attended every LU football banquet since they brought football back and it gets better every year. Definitely more tables filled than last year. Bob West introduced Coach "Bum" Phillips and "Bum" had some great one liners and gave Coach Woodard some advice on what type of players to recruit. Players that will do what you tell them to do. He also commented that Lamar’s football facilities should be a great recruiting tool and one of the best he has ever seen. Kudos to whomever put this banquet together. It was a top notch production.

I know that this Lamar team will probably be the most exciting I can remember since the '81 team. What can we expect to see though? Is the offense going to be wide open, no huddle? Are we going to chunk it or run it? What else can we expect to see, not to see? Can't wait!

Here's my prediction for the starting lineup against UL-L: Offense LT - Brock (RS-FR) LG - Gillam (JR-2L) C - Kelso (JR-2L) RG - Robertson (SR-1L) RT - Collins (SR-1L) QB - Mossakowski (JR-TR) RB - Sims (SO-TR) TE - McVey (SO-IL) WR - Johnson (SO-TR) WR - Ford (JR-2L) WR - Franks (SR-2L) Moss, Sims, Johnson were highly touted out of HS. Offensive line is a big question mark at this time. Sims, Garrett Harris and Harmon gives the team a lot of depth at RB that they've never had before. How much playing time do guys like Soto, Venson and Ploch get? Defense NT - Dorsey (SR-2L) DE - Dickson (JR-2L) DE - Okafor (SO-TR) ILB - Washington (JR-2L) ILB …

Any news on who is red shirting this year? Also when will roster be done. #51,#59,#60,#63,#68,#69,and a few more still empty?

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome all the Lamar fans that will be traveling to Lafayette Saturday to attend the game against the Cajuns. Biggest news was seeing #64 at LG and not under center. That's right, Kyle Gilliam was playing LG with Ian Kelso moving to center. More details to come.
