This is a story worth following. Basically the Louisiana State Government it trying to come up with money to cover a $940 million deficit in their budget. The Govenor last night warned that all schools could close by April 1st. If that happens all students would receive an incomplete for their classes making them all athletes ineligible for the fall 2016 season. For Lamar's sake, this could potentially effect games against Southeastern Louisiana, Northwestern St., Nicholls, & McNeese. Many are saying the new Govenor is using this as a scare tactic for approval to raise taxes...but we shall see. Also the story states that Louisiana is also on pace for a $2 billion…

Something that has been a controversial topic of late has been the Satellite Camps that have become more popular. For those not familiar with them, here is a basic explanation. NCAA rules prohibit FBS schools from hosting camps outside of a 50 mile radius of the school. However it said nothing about being a guest at a smaller school's camp. Most of these "guest" coaches hailed from northern schools using these camps as a means to get to the talent rich south and see prospects in person. Last year Lamar hosted several camps with Colorado St coaches.

After being down 10-1 in the 5th, the Cards roared back to score 13 runs in their final 4 at bats to beat Nicholls 14-10. The win completes the mid-week non conference sweep and extends the nations longest win streak. Also in the win Sr SS Stijn van der Meer expended his hit streak to 19 games which is 4th longest in school history. Reid Russell also clocked another HR making 10 on the season for him...tied for the most since Michael Ambort hit 11 in 2007. School record is 18 by Ambort in 2005.

Lamar went into the weekend series with Abilene Christian on a 7 game winning streak. Make that a 10 game winning streak after the Cards swept the Wildcats in a 3 game series this past weekend. In a double header on Saturday Lamar won the opener 8-5. Will Hibbs (5-1) got the W for Lamar going 6 allowing 5 hits and 4 runs with 2 BB's and 10 K's. Jake Nash and Jacoby Middleton combined for 5 RBI's to lead the Cards offense. Russell Reid, Robin Adames and Brendan Satran also had nice games for Lamar. The Cards won the 2nd game by a score of 16-6. Billy Love (2-1) got the win as he went 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits with 2 BB's and 8 K's. Brett Brown took the Cards t…

I'm working on creating Wikipedia season pages for the football team and have a question about the 1974 season. Based on some sources, it looks like Mississippi State and Southern Mississippi played at Cardinal Stadium that year. That's one of the seasons that the NCAA hasn't caught up on their archived documents so I don't have a season sheet to go by. Also, I was flying planes for the Air Force back then so I didn't attend the games. Just wanted to make sure. That was a great season by the way with losses only to Mississippi State and to Louisiana Tech. (Louisiana Tech was UPI Division II National Champion that year with a loss only to Central Michigan in the …

On the schedule the Cards play Nicholls on Tuesday and Wednesday followed by a weekend series at Corpus. Are the midweek games conference games as there are only two games? Nicholls is the only conference team Lamar plays less than three games against and the only midweek games. I looked at the Sam schedule and noticed that they don't play Southestern La at all so I am thinking that only the 10 weekend three games series count for conference. Does anyone know for sure?

http://lamarcardinals.com/news/2016/3/31/football-cards-hold-short-scrimmage-at-end-of-practice.aspx Marcus Abbott getting a couple of sacks is encouraging as we will need several guys on the DL to step up. WR Kaleb Spark who caught the lone TD pass will be a RS Freshman this season. He originally signed with Mary Hardin Baylor out of PNG but ended up attending Lamar and RSing last season.

After three weekends of baseball Lamar is currently in 2nd place with a 7-2 record. Although the other games are still going on with Lamar's weekend finished the worst that can happen is for Southeaster La to finish with a sweep of Corpus and maintain their two game lead on Lamar and for Sam Houston to finish today with a win and stay one game back of Lamar.

Guys, I wanted to get your opinions on what Will Davis needs to do to get this program on the winning path so i'm putting together a To-Do list that will help make LU a National Contender. I want to see each of yours. 1. Recruit, Recruit, Recruit 2. Stadium Upgrades, not sure what plans are 3. Upgrade uniforms, I played in mid 2000's and uniforms are the same 4. Get us in a bigger conference 5. Expand our brand to other markets.

I am not sure but SFA could have been the first SLC team to make the Sweet 16 since Lamar did it was back in the Billy Tubbs era in 1980 if they scored just one more basket. The Lumberjacks had a really nice weekend that ended with an unfortunate tip in by Notre Dame with just a tic or two left in the game that gave the Irish a one point win. I wish SFA had won. It would have been good for them and great for our conference and they deserve a big pat on the back for representing the SLC so well. Good job Lumberjacks and know we are gunning for you next season!

Reports are surfacing that the Buffalo Bills are expected to hire new Lamar DL coach John Blake in the same capacity. Beaumont Enterprise's Danny Shapiro confirmed that the Bills contacted Coach Woodard requesting to contact Coach Blake, but Woodard said nothing was official yet. Would be a tough break for Lamar as it will be difficult to find a quality replacement this late.

Cards lose 2-0 in game 1 of the series with Northwestern St Saturday to start Southland Conference play. Sunday's double header saw Lamar take game 1 6-5 in 10 innings only to fall 5-1 in the finale http://lamarcardinals.com/news/2016/3/12/baseball-errors-allow-nsu-to-steal-saturdays-game.aspx http://lamarcardinals.com/news/2016/3/13/baseball-cardinals-split-the-doubleheader-drop-series.aspx

Watched a good portion of the game last night and was thoroughly disgusted. The officiating was the worst of any game I have watched all season. While SFA won the game and probably is the team from the conference that should be in the NCAA tourney some of the calls and non-calls were ridiculous. Early in the game the officials called double technical fouls for something that from what was seen on TV was unobvious especially considering the amount of body contact was occurring that was ignored by the officials. On one play Walkup went after a rebound well outside of the lane and knocked the A&M CC player down with nothing called and yet they make a double tech call…

The football roster in the athletic website has been updated with the removal of graduating seniors (have not bumped all the classifications up yet though). Couple things of note: LB Mike Hargis who was a senior and participated in the senior night festivities is the only senior still listed. Was injured for the end of 2015 and may have gotten/applied for a medical redshirt it appears. If so, it wouldn't have been know on senior night if he would get it so that is probably why he was a part of it. DBs Tommie and Ronald Barrett are both still listed in the roster. They were both listed as JRs last season but were part of senior night as well. DB Tristan Ridge …
