  1. Today is the last day the Astros have to sign the last 12 of their draft picks and I'm ashamed to say I didn't realize until I actually went through the names of the unsigned players that Lamar's own Stijn Van Der Meer was Houston's 34th round draft pick. Van Der Meer was a senior so unless he wants to use a possible extra year of eligibility there is no reason why he shouldn't go ahead and sign with Houston. I think it would be a hoot if he did sign and play for the Astros. As it is Houston have signed 28 of their 40 picks which is pretty good and what is even better is that the Stros have inked 17 of their top 20 picks. The deadline to sign 2016 draftees is today at 5 P…

  3. Started by KABrother88,

The online roster has been updated to add jersey numbers to all incoming freshman. Couple things I've noticed were: Clayton Turner has moved from QB to WR which was something that was speculated as a possibility. JC signee Demontrai Lewis is no longer listed. Looks like he might not have made it in. HS signee LB Del'Chaun Rushing & K/P Mitchell Gray from Australia are not listed but I've been told they are still expected to be in school this week. http://lamarcardinals.com/roster.aspx?path=football

  6. Started by KABrother88,

2016 preseason All-SLC was announced this morning. Per the Lamar press release there were 4 Cards honored. 1st Team RB - Kade Harrington 1st Team OL - Bret Treadway 1st Team KR - Rodney Randle 2nd Team DB - Brendan Langley Langley getting a 2nd team not having only played half of last season there shows you what he's capable of. Something if found interesting is that DL Larance Hale was named to the 1st as well in the SLC press release. As we know he was kicked off the team in the spring but it's been reported he got a 2nd chance with a trial period to see if he can earn his way back. The Lamar release makes no mention of him so I would assume either he is …

  7. Started by Cardinal Nation,

I was doing some research on former Lamar Basketball players and came across the news of Jonathan Burnette I read that he died last month when trying to stop someone from stealing his car. In his attempt he was thrown from the car and suffered the fatal injuries. What I remember most about him was that his Freshman year for Lamar he was really coming along looking to be a star for the cardinals until he tore his knee up...i believe he was never the same after that and tranfered after his sophomore year. Can anyone clarify if my memory is right?

  8. Writer Craig Haley poses 5 burning questions in the Southland leading up to the 2016 season. Among his questions are: 4.) Can Kade Harrington Rush For 2,000 Yards Again? 5.) Senior DE Larance Hale has been dissmissed from the Lamar football team for a violation of team rules. He was a 1st team All-SLC DE last season after recording 86 tackles including 21.5 for loss. Big blow to the DL who is switching from a 3 man to a 4 man front. http://lamarcardinals.com/news/2016/3/29/hale-dismissed-from-football-team.aspx

  11. I find it a little hard to believe that a college sports forum doesn't have a thread about one of the most influential coaches of the last 50 years. Pat Summit put women's basketball on the map. We all need appreciate what she accomplished as a coach and also as a person whom her players universally loved. She was hard on her players, in many ways she was harder than today's coaches may be allowed to be, but she did it because she wanted to bring out the full potential of the players she was coaching. She was tough but it was a toughness borne of love for her players and her players loved her. Sometimes after they graduated and moved on but they all loved her for what she…

  12. Texasfootball.com (Dave Cambell's Texas Football) is currently releasing thier Top 50 Most Important College Players For 2016. Currently they are at #17 but there are already a few players of note on the list in regards to Southland players and Lamar opponents. Kade Harrington has not be one as of yet but you have to think he will be very high on this list. The list is not necessarily the best players but instead the most important players to thier team. Click the name for the write up from DCTF. #47 - BJ Singleton - DT - Houston #40 - Corey Avery - RB - SHSU #36 - Terrance Peters - RB - HBU #35 - Sam Denmark - LB - ACU #33 - Chance Allen - WR - Houston #27 - …

  14. This would be really big news and I hope it passes. As some may not know, a 12 game regular season only happens every so often. They decide on 11 or 12 based off of the number of Saturday's between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. When there are 12 Saturdays you get 11 games. When there are 13 you get 12. With your first game being played before Labor Day it allows you a bye week in the middle. I'm assuming this would mean that there would be 2 games before Labor Day and not eliminating the bye. With the SLC moving to a 9 game conference schedule last year, it only allowed 2 non conference games, one of which will probably always be used as an FBS money game. This will…

  20. Started by eagle eye,

Okay, this is the 3rd time in 3 weeks the Cards face a big series but it's been true the first two times and it's equally true this time. For no other reason than Lamar needs to get off this morbid losing streak. Lamar is 1-7 in their last 8 games and that is the type of run you DO NOT want to be on. Seedings could change this last weekend of the regular season but in all honesty it would be just flipping the teams you'd probably face anyway. That isn't the bad part of this whole scenario. The Cards need to snap this losing trend. "Nip it, nip it in the bud.", as Barney Fife used to say, and get on some semblance of a positive roll. It's time to turn the season around.

If I remember correctly, the 4-2-5 defense is what the new DC wants to run. What is it?

  22. Holy Crap this kid is huge and has no scholarship offers? http://thelab.bleacherreport.com/the-largest-football-recruit-on-the-planet/ Here's his highlight video. http://www.maxpreps.com/news/w_efs9lrFka2t0fv3Z4T_w/video-photos--7-foot,-440-pound-lineman-john-krahn-may-be-the-biggest-football-player-ever.htm You can see the kid isn't real athletic but that might change if he dropped around 50 pounds and worked on his agility. A nose tackle that big, especially in college, would be huge! (No pun intended---okay, pun intended) Still, wouldn't it be intriguing to see what the kid can do in person?

  23. Started by Dracula,

Geezer is a baseball fan and right now he is feeling down about the course that the LU baseball team has taken over the last few weeks of the season and that feeling has spilled over into the general state of LU athletics. I thought that it was time to have a recap by using the lamarcardinals.com website. On the men's side, Football had a down year in 2015. But, for several reasons, you have to be optimistic about a big rebound in 2016. A really nice signing class , new coaches and ideas, and a 2000 yard runner, I'll take that all day. basketball, I don't what to tell you. Let's just say that it is a work in progress. The baseball team is heading for the SLC tournament an…

  24. Our Jim Gilligan Day brochures were received in the mail. No, I and many baseball alumni will not be attending the Celebrating of the Legacy of Jim Gilligan. We will always support our Cardinals on the diamond, but we can't give back financially to the program as asked on the brochure by Jason Henderson AD. We will not give our hard earned Lamar University degree money as long as Jim Gilligan is with the baseball program now and following his retirement. During our years at Lamar we created great relationships with our teammates and still continue those relationships, but Jim Gilligan always treated us with no respect or dignity. It was always about himself and building…
