Lady's sit in sixth place after day one. Best finisher tied for 8th. Good news is this is a freshman. Maybe next year gets better.

Southland Conference Championship is being hosted by Lamar and begins Tuesday with the 1st match at 11am. First match has #1 seed SFA versus #8 Texas A&M-CC. #4 seed Northwestern State plays #5 seed SELa at 2pm and #3 seed ACU goes against #6 seed UIW at 5pm. Host and defending champion Lamar (#2 seed) takes on #7 SHSU at 8pm.

Lamar baseball team starts the weekend 4 game series at NW St at 6:30 this evening. Followed by 2 games Saturday (starting at 2pm) and concluding with a 1pm Sunday game. The Demons are currently 5th in the SLC and Cards are 10th, but separated by only 2 games in the standings.

Lamar first baseman Chase Kemp named Southland Conference Player of the Week. The Nederland junior hit 2 homers and had a .562 average over the weekend versus HBU.

In 1971 50 years ago Lamar Tech won Championships in Track and the first ever in Baseball in the SLC and as it turned out the last Football Championship in the SLC as now we will be in the WAC!! Let

Sophomore Anderson Kopp and senior Avery Sullivan where selected to the SLC MBB All-Academic team. Kopp had the highest GPA of the 10 players selected with a 3.77 GPA in Communications. The award is restricted to players with significant playing time in SLC games.

For the 2nd weekend in a row, Cardinal Baseball will host a 4 game SLC series. Friday at 6pm brings the SELa Lions to Vincent-Beck Stadium. Lions are currently in 2nd place in the conference with a 6-2 record. Cards are tied for 6th place with a 2-2 record. Games 2 & 3 will be Saturday afternoon at 1pm/4pm and final game is Sunday at 1pm.
