  1. Cards host HBU in their next to last home game tomorrow at 4:30 following the ladies game. A win in any of the last three games will get the Cards into the tourney as it would get the Cards to a guaranteed .500 conference record and all the teams below them either already have nine conference losses or in the case of SELA will have if Nicholls were to win out and LU has the tie-breaker with SELA. However, as I have posted several times just making the tourney is below my personal expectations and it is less than what it is going to take to rebuild the Lamar fan base. Lamar lost both games to HBU last year and had a split with a home win the year before that so HBU is d…

http://www.lamarcardinals.com/schedule.aspx?path=wbball WOMEN HAVE A NICE SEASON GOING.NOT MUCH TALK ON HERE BUT FIGURED I GIVE THEM A SHOOT-OUT.ALSO LOOK VERY YOUNG SO FUTURE LOOKS REALLY GOOD FOR THIS TEAM.

  3. Started by geezer,

Missed the first half but it was a good one for the Cards as they are up by twenty 43-23. Now can they hold onto it or build from there?

  4. Started by eagle eye,

We knew that the 3 game road trip after their big win over SAM nearly two weeks ago would be a challenge but I don't think anyone would have thought LU would lose all three. The Cards have one more road game before coming back home. They will play Northwestern State on Wednesday evening and they really, really need a win. This 3 game losing streak has cost the LU men 2 spots in the conference standings and knocks them out of the top 4 down to #6. They have 3 games remaining, 2 at home against Houston Baptist and Nicholls and the season finale at McNeese. Lamar can win all three and they should beat Nicholls and McNeese. It will be very important to beat Houston Baptist to…

Tonight the Lamar Cardinal baseball team will open up the 2017 season Milwaukee as part of the annual Cardinal Classic. This game also marks the beginning of the Will Davis era. This years Cards should have an explosive offense having 5 of the 9 expected regulars named to either 1st or 2nd team preseason All-SLC. This seasons team will be headlined by Sr. OF Ried Russell who lead the SLC and tied the school record with 18 HRs last year on his way to SLC Hitter Of The Year. He also finished 3rd in the TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby last summer against some of the top power hitters in the college game. Other All-SLC selections were Sr. C Bryndan Arredondo (1st), Sr. IN…

Cards open the game with very cold shooting and at the first media timeout are down 10-0.

  7. Started by geezer,

It's been eleven years since Lamar men last won a basketball game at SFA and the Cards have only beaten SFA three times since the year 2000 so saying that this is a tough game for the Cards is an understatement. SFA has a new coach this year and obviously as they are sitting in third place just one game ahead of the Cards, SFA is not the team they have been the last few years but history is still a hard thing to change. Lamar is sitting in an interesting position in the conference race as they are probably in the tourney unless the Cards were to loose all their remaining games, but if the Cards were to win out they would probably wind up as the third seed. Six games le…

  9. How in the hell did this happen, guy quit mid season on team and University, because of the pressure!! Why the hell cant we find a letterman for this job as it is no more than being a glorified secretary. This makes me question the values of the Leadership. To me it is a slap in the face to the University. Surely I am not the only one who will feel this way!! Matt Burnett would of been a great choice in my opinion, if he was really interested, rumor he was!! Unbelievable!!

  13. Lamar CB Brendan Langley made a nice impression at this past week’s Senior Bowl. Go figure why but he was a member of the North squad and he got some positive notice this past week and he also got some praise for his play from NFL.com’s Mike Mayock during the game which included an interception. CB’s are a valuable commodity in the NFL and if Brendan continues his upward swing at the NFL combine it could go a long way toward him being drafted in April. On CBSSports.com player rankings they have Langley ranked as the 21st ranked CB in the draft and the 170th ranked player overall. He is listed at 6’2” on the Lamar link below but on CBSSports.com he’s listed at 6’0” and 199…

  14. This coming week is a crucial week for the men as they are currently tied with SFA for fourth place in the conference. The Cards are sitting at 4-3 with losses to the top two teams and the last place team. The conference is very much an anybody can beat anybody on any night whether it is at home or away, although the weaker teams are more likely to beat a stronger team at home. The Cards are home to AMCC on Wednesday in a tv broadcast game and follow that with a game against Northwestern St on Saturday. Both of these opponents are currently at or near the bottom of the conference standings but have played the leaders to relatively close games. If the Cards think that…

  15. Started by KABrother88,

While searching for any clues to a final opponent for the 2017 schedule I ran across this article which states Lamar we play at Texas Tech in 2018 and 2021. We also already have the 2019 game with Texas A&M on the books as well. http://lubbockonline.com/filed-online/2016-09-15/texas-tech-adds-opponent-2018-football-schedule

  16. Started by KABrother88,

Been working on putting this together the last few weeks and here is what I've found based on other schools released schedules. 9/2 - at North Texas 9/9 - 9/16 - at Northwestern St. 9/23 - at Southeastern Louisiana 9/30 - vs Nicholls St. 10/7 - 10/14 - at Incarnate Word 10/21 - at Sam Houston St. 10/28 - vs SFA 11/4 - vs Central Arkansas 11/11 - at Houston Baptist 11/18 - vs McNeese St. Only thing missing is the final OOC game. My guess would be it would be 9/9. Not ideal to have your bye week on week 2 but that is what Sam Houston has done the last couple of seasons

  17. Started by geezer,

After the Thursday loss at Sam if Lamar is going to win a road game on this road trip it has to be now. Good news for Lamar is that ACU played at Nicholls on Thursday and lost by three. That probably doesn't really matter other than it means that Lamar should be competitive in Thibodeaux if they play up to their abilities for the full game. Can't afford to have anyone take the day off. I would say Saturday is almost a must win day if the Cards want to finish in the upper half of the conference race.

  18. Started by geezer,

Tough game for the Cards this evening as Sam Houston is currently tied for second in the conference riding a four game winning streak that includes a win at UNO after starting the conference season of with losses at UCA and a home loss to HBU. Overall the conference looks like it is very evenly matched so a win at their place would be a huge step forward for the men.

  19. Started by BigAL16,

Heard A&M offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone might be up for the Auburn offensive coordinator job. Word is, A&M might pursue Lamar coach Mike Schulz.

  20. Started by KABrother88,

Have been told he has decided to give up football. Big loss as he was the most productive and experienced RB returning even though he was just a Freshman last season.

  21. Started by geezer,

Cards are scheduled to play at 4 PM following the ladies game. Massey ratings predictions have the Cards as the favorite, but ACU can be tough at home. ACU is currently sitting at 1-4 in the conference with their only win coming against SFA at home. While SFA appears to be down this year they are still a team that has Lamar's number for years at this point. ACU lost to SELA in their last game at home so they will be looking to get back on the winning track. Massey has Lamar with a two point edge. This is a game the Cards need if they are going to compete and make the conference tourney. Peck em Cards.

  22. For the men today's game at home is another toss up game per the Massey ratings. SELA is currently 2-1 in conference with wins over ACU and IW at home and a loss to HBU in Houston. SELA is led by 6-7 forward Jordan Capps who is averaging 22 ppg with three others in double figures. While their best scorer is the senior forward, they have a 6-10 center that averages 25 minutes a game, with 5 points and 7 rebounds per game, the same type of size that has caused the Cards problems all year.

  23. Started by Skinny1,

Lamar leads at half 47-35. Cards got out quick and maintained a 7-8 point lead thru the first half. Top scorer for LU is Frenchwood with 15 points, Weisbrod has 13.

  24. Started by geezer,

Cards are at home against the Privateers tonight. UNO is 2-0 in conference with home wins over ACU and AMCC. They are a senior lead team with their leading scorer Thomas (similar size to Weisbrod) averaging about 20 pts per game. Game time is approximate as the ladies tip off at 5:30.

  25. Started by coachacola,

LU up early in the game
