Here's an article from NFL.com concerning the attempt in 2013 of players at Northwestern University to form a players union. In the fall of 2013 the Northwestern players petitioned the National Labor Relations Board for forming a union of it's school athletes, especially football players. In March of 2014 the NLRB okayed the formation of a union and today they reversed the ruling saying it could create competitive imbalances. One quote struck me as funny and a very political thing to say. Although the ruling was unanimous, officials reportedly called it a "very narrow" decision. Here's the link to the whole article. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000511037/articl…

For the 2nd installment of KABrother's 2015 Football Preview we take a look at the Running Back position. Who We Lost: N/A Who We Return: Carl Harris** (Sr) Mike Handy (Jr) Kade Harrington* (Jr) Emmitt Raleigh (Jr) Cody Dupuy (So) Who We Added: Luis Lopez (Jr) Keegan Mitchell (Fr) Derrion Randle (Fr) What We Know: Kade Harrington picked up right were he left off after his unexpected, standout freshman season. Had he not been sidelined for 3 games early in the season, he probably would have surpassed many of the numbers he put up in 2013. Carl Harris served as a nice compliment to Harrington and serviceable replacement while Harrington was out, but …

Next up on our positional preview is the most experienced group going into 2015...the Linebackers Note: * represents player was a starter at the end of 2014. ** represents player was 2nd team at the end of 2014. If it was fitting to start the 2015 Football Preview with the Quarterbacks, it's also fitting to end the offensive positions with the Offensive Line because to me our offensive success will begin and end with these 2 groups. Note: * represents player was a starter at the end of 2014. ** represents player was 2nd team at the end of 2014. Letter in ( ) represents what eligibility player will/would have had starting the season with "E" being exhausted eligibility. Who We Lost: Chance McCormack* (E) Tramon Shead* (E) Chance Allen** (So) Seth Blendermann (R-Fr) Who We Return: Justin Brock* (Sr) Richard Alfonso (Jr) John Craven* (Jr) Bret Treadway* (Jr) …

http://lamarcardinals.com/news/2015/8/16/FB_0816151615.aspx 1st Team WR - Reggie Begelton 2nd Team OL - Bret Treadway DL - Omar Tebo LB - Ronnie Jones Jr. DB - Xavier Bethany 3rd Team RB - Kade Harrington WR - Devonn Brown OL - Justin Brock Really think Kade is gonna have a good year...hasn't gotten much pub coming into the year. They called Brown "one of the league's top return specialist." Really couldn't be farther from the truth. There was a lot of discussion on here last year about this...but a 17.3 yard per return on kickoffs is not good. Overall as a team we averaged 17.6 y/r...good for 10th out of 11 schools in the SLC. If Brown is sti…

Alright I want to do things a little differently this year. I felt like last year some people lost interest after they missed a couple weeks and got behind with no way to catch up. So, in an attempt to reduce the penalty for missing a week, I've altered the scoring for this year. Instead of the basic W-L set up I've created a point system that is explained below. With that being said, here are all of the rules for the 2015 season. 1.) There will be 15 games to pick each week. 2.) Contest will last until the end of the FBS regular season. 3.) All games will be Saturdays with kickoff at 11 AM CST or later. Thread will be locked at 11 AM so picks must be in bef…

The Sporting News has released its Preseason Top 25 for 2015 North Dakota State starts off at #1 after capturing the past 4 FCS National Championships. Sam Houston St. is right behind them at #2 after returning a significant amount of a team that exceeded expectations and lost to NDSU in the semifinals last season. Other SLC teams that appear are SFA at #17 and SELA at #21

It's only fitting that the first installment of the positional preview is the Quarterback position. Generally considered the most important position on the field, the 2015 group also has the most question marks of any position group. Note: * represents player was a starter at the end of 2014. ** represents player was 2nd team at the end of 2014. Letter in ( ) represents what eligibility player will/would have had starting the season with "E" being exhausted eligibility. http://lamarcardinals.com/news/2015/8/9/150809_hydration_story.aspx Good article on the challenges and importance of staying hydrated during the dog days of summer .I remember my 7th grade year of football where our water supply came from a 5' piece of PVC pipe connected to a tree and had 5 holes drilled in it, capped on one end and a water hose connected to the other end. The water hose extended 400 yards or so baking under the sun. Many times I would go without water simply cause I didn't want to burn my mouth lol. The following August Minnesota Vikings OL Korey Stringer died or heat stroke and there was an obvious change in our water break habits...and the sch…
