Cards didn't have any magic for the SLC Tourney as they dropped the opening game 7-5 to McNeese Wednesday and then ended with a loss to HBU 8-5 this afternoon. Pitching seemed to be the issue for the Cards all year as it seems like five runs should be enough to win a lot of games. Hope Davis can improve the pitching for next year. There are a few key players to replace on offense also but I believe pitching is the real key. Overall not a terrible start to his tenure but he will need to recruit well. The university needs to step up and make some big improvements to the stadium I believe after seeing the facilities that Liberty University had for their softball program…

I saw this on KBMT last night. http://www.12newsnow.com/news/local/lance-s-little-legends-the-nation-s-number-one-collegiate-archer/443826123 This young man made his own way, overcame the obstacles, and brought home a national title. This was a real deal national competition, with archers from universities, from all over the country, and the young man beat them all. http://www.archerywire.com/releases/404396/ What can you say but congratulations and well done.

Cards begin their final regular season series tonight at McNeese with a 6:00 PM start time. Cards need to take two of three from conference leader McNeese to be assured of a spot in the conference tourney. Two wins pretty much guarantees the Cards a middle of the pack seed. However if the Cards were to get swept then they will need help with at least one of the teams behind them will need multiple losses also. Come on Cards!!!!

The Spring football practice and game are history, the NFL draft is over, and neither starts back for a few months. What now? Finally, I finished putting the video from last season's SHSU game, not so much the game but the background stuff of the band, the crowd and one interesting shot of the tailgaters in the North Montagne parking lot, on DVD. One tailgater has some huge KA letters, in his space, could it be our own KABrother88?

Ladies win their first game against UL-Monroe and will face ACU tomorrow at 3 PM. ACU beat UT Arlington in the opening game of the tourney. UL-M will play UTA at noon tomorrow. Lamar did not play ACU during the regular season, but ACU finished second in the regular season 2 1/2 games ahead of Lamar.

Taking at least two of three games this weekend from SFA is imperative if the Cards want to make the Tourney. The bats came alive as LU takes game one against SFA 10-5.

1st round begins Thursday with the first round at 7 PM, then continues Friday with rounds 2-3 starting at 6 PM and concluded Saturday with rounds 4-7 starting at noon. Brendan Langley has been getting some run as being potentially picked as high as the 4th round. NFL.com projects him in the 5th-6th round. The days that follow the draft will be just as important to other former Cards as it becomes an open market for undrafted free agents. Kade Harrington is most likely going to fall into this catagory and I hope he gets a shot with a training camp invite.

Cards win the last two games of the series with Oklahoma State with a 6-2 victory Sunday afternoon. While OSU you is 8th place in the Big 12, they are still a major conference team so perhaps there is still some hope for the Cards to finish the season strong. Cards are currently in a three way tie for 7th but lost two of three to both UNO and Nicholls so essentially they are out of the tourney unless they can win more games in the last two series than at least one of the others.

Lamar continues to underwhelm and disappoint. When Lamar needed to step up and take care of business the lost two conference games in a row. One to lowly Abilene Christian and second in the first game of a double header yesterday against the almost-as-lowly Nicholls. Good grief, Charlie Brown. Lamar came back in the nightcap to beat Nicholls which is a good thing. The final game of the series looks like it might be a rainout. I hope they are able to get the game in and I hope even harder that LU will win but given what has happened in the past month I won't be holding my breath. The Lady Cards, on the other hand, do see the value of finishing and their series against t…

Sr. SG - Da'shawn Robinson - TR from Louisiana Tech - Eligible immediately. Seems he never picked up significant PT at La Tech after transferring from JUCO Jr. SG/SF - Michael Kolawole - TR from UI-Chicago. We recruited him out of Rowlett HS, went to UIC for a few years where he averaged 5+ PPG his freshman year only to see his PT drop during his sophomore season. Will have to sit a year.

While the men's baseball team is struggling to make the postseason tournament it is pretty clear the LU women's softball team is heading to the postseason. The Ladies are currently in 4th place in conference as they head toward a 3 game series this weekend in San Antonio against IWU. IWU is not in the playoff hunt but they could throw a big wrench in the Cards machine if Lamar doesn't take care of business. The Lady Cards play 13th ranked Baylor this evening which means it will be a busy night at the LU baseball/softball complex tonight. Tonight's game could be a good barometer of where the Lady Cards are compared to top level competition but I'm sure their main focus is …

Don't despair Cardinal faithful, the loss to LSU earlier this week didn't mean squat but the Cards didn't roll over and play dead either, losing 10-4. It's no shame and didn't matter a tinker's damn in the grand scheme of things. What matters right now is how the Cards do in Conference and lately they have taken care of business. LU salvaged a win against New Orleans two weeks ago and they beat Grambling right before pulling out the brooms sweeping TAMU-CC last weekend. They are in the middle of playing a weekend series against Houston Baptist and so far things are looking good. The won last night by a score of 17-11 and so far in the top of the sixth they are leading…

It looks like some conference moves are going to occur this year. It has been widely reported that Wichita State is going to leave the Missouri Valley and move to the American Athletic Conference. The AAC is considered a higher quality basketball conference than the MVC where WSU has been the dominant power for the last several years. While WSU does not currently have a football program there has been inquiries about what would it take to restart the program and by being in the AAC it would give them a direct route to FBS football if they choose to restart the program but it might not be a requirement for joining the AAC. The MVC is among the strongest FCS football co…

With the end of this weekend the Cards have reached the mid point of their conference baseball season. At 6-9 the Cards are sitting in 10th place, having gone 1-2 in both of the last two weekend series. Clearly if there is a chance to make the tourney the Cards are going to have to pick it up as they almost every series left is against a school that currently has a better record than the Cards.

She has once again managed to bring in two of the top players in the nation onto a team that was 22-8 and 15-3 in conference last year and is returning all of its starters. Let that sink in for just a minute. She is building an absolute power house here in Beaumont. http://lamarcardinals.com/news/2017/4/12/womens-basketball-adds-two-recruits.aspx

has the improvement this year in mens basketball good enough for a contract extension for tic price.from what I read he's in the 2nd year of a 3yr deal.here is some info that may help you decide. 16-17 season 18-13(10-8)slc #6 seed in tourney 15-16 season 11-19(3-15)slc no tourney 14-15 season 15-15(9-9)slc no tourney 17-18 prognosis-lose 2 seniors(non-starters),should return 12(included is Harrison, sitting out transfer year),signed 6'8 and 6'9 post for next yr I say give him a 1 yr extension with a small raise and see how next year plays out.i think were on the right track but not totally sold yet.another point is tic is graduating his players which …

After sweeping IWU last weekend LU had a real good chance to make up ground in the SLC but they fell flat on their faces. They lost a non conference game on the road to NWSU on Tuesday. This was disappointing because they had just beaten them the week before at home. Then LU lost both ends of a double header to HBU on Friday. The Cards salvaged a win Saturday but losing 3 of 4 games to what looked like inferior opponents is disheartening. Good teams beat who they are supposed to beat but LU didn't get it done. Maybe their early success was just smoke and mirrors but you aren't supposed to lose at home to an equal or lesser opponent. LU needs to find another gear in these …
