  1. Started by geezer,

Ladies play at 2:00 and men at 4:30 PM today. Ladies should continue their winning ways as they easily defeated the Islanders in Corpus. Men on the other won a tight ball game in Corpus but would expect another tight game as the Islanders while not winning many this year have defeated a couple of teams that Lamar lost to.

  2. Started by geezer,

Ladies looking to solidify their position at the top of the conference (3:00 PM) while the men look to keep another small winning streak going and move up the standings (6:15 PM). Ladies won big in Beaumont and men squeaked out a come from behind overtime win. Expect Sam to be pumped to redeem themselves from the loss in Beaumont. Cards will need to bring a high intensity defense to the game, needing a strong performance from Nzeakor who has been in foul trouble the last couple of games and relatively ineffective. Also need strong performances from Frenchwood, Harrison and the subs. Expect full effort from Bosha as usual and Weisbrod.

  3. Started by geezer,

Lamar men play at 6:30 in Natchitoches and the women play in Beaumont at 7:00. NWST men are winless in conference and 3-19 overall. The lady demons are 2-9 in conference and 7-15 overall. Should be two games that Lamar can win easily, but especially the men have had a bad habit of playing down to the competition level and dropping these kind of games over the last several years.

  4. Started by geezer,

Ladies are in a tough game with SFA, down by two at the end of the first quarter. SFA is undefeated in conference with LU one game back with a loss to UCA.

  5. Started by geezer,

Lamar takes on an ACU team with an identical record as the Cards both overall and in conference. The teams haven't played the exact same opponents to this point but ACU got a win at UCA while the Cards lost to UCA at home and ACU lost at Corpus where the Cards got a victory, so with that this should be a very tough game.

  6. Started by BigNasty92,

Just learned today that Coach John Peyton passed away. Anyone that's been around LU, or the Triangle for any amount of time, should know about the legacy and impact that he made in the lives of so many, especially the students and student athletes at Lamar. A member of both the PVAMU & LU Hall of Honors, he will be sorely missed by many.

  7. Baseball season is nearly upon us and I’m pretty excited. I’ve got my Astros about to start spring training to begin their 2018 quest to repeat as World Series Champs and Lamar will kick off their 2018 campaign next month on the 16th as they host their Cardinal Classic tournament. I think we all are expecting good things, or at very least, better things from in the Cards in Will Davis’ 2nd year as manager of the team. At this point I thought I would go retro on y’all this morning and take a look back at one of the best players in Lamar history, Kevin Millar. Now, for all you born after 1992 you might not know that Millar is an alumnus of Big Red and he benefitted from th…

  8. Started by geezer,

Ladies win the first game of the afternoon double header pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 25 point win 83-58. Men's game starts at 4:30. Two teams with similar records. Can the Cards put forth a full 40 minute effort?

  9. Started by geezer,

Men are at home and ladies on the road. Ladies game started at 6:00 PM with the men starting at 7:00 PM in the Montange. Nicholls men are sitting in a first place tie currently with one loss on the road at SFA. Nicholls ladies are sitting in eighth place.

  10. Started by geezer,

Both men and women are at home Saturday with early and late afternoon games. The ladies start at 2:00 and the men are scheduled for 4:30. For the men this is the start of an important three game home stand where the Cards play three teams that are all ahead of them in the conference standings. These three games may well determine where the Cards can realistically finish in conference already having three losses. Right now the Cards are tied for the 8th and last slot in the tourney. The women are currently 5-1 in conference (fourth place) and with a win will move up one slot in the standings as ACU and UCA play each other so one of them will have two losses after S…

  11. Tomorrow evening the men play IW in San Antonio while the ladies are at home. The ladies are currently in fourth place at 4-1 in conference play sitting a game and a half behind UCA and ACU and a half game behind SFA. IW is 2-3 with losses to both UCA and ACU as well as an opening loss to McNeese. Could shape up for a good contest. Mean while the men who have lost three straight games including two home games take on the IW men who are 0-5 so far. All of their losses are to teams ahead of Lamar in the standings so I don't place a lot of hope in the fact that IW hasn't won in conference yet as a positive. Besides Lamar men's sports have made a habit of blowing what s…

  12. Started by coachacola,

Mike James is on the Suns roster where he's listed as a PG, but he's not on the depth chart. What's interesting is that the three other PGs ahead of him all played at Kentucky: Bledsoe, Ullis and Knight. We'll see how much playing time he gets. Let's see, Mike James plays for the Suns in the NBA, Brandon Langley plays for the Broncos in the NFL, and Chris Stroud is playing well on the PGA tour. LU just needs someone playing MLB baseball to round out the major sports.

  13. Started by geezer,

Men are at home and ladies on the road. Looking at the schedule this is the last of four games that you only play the opponent one time this year. So far LU men are 1-2 with a split on the road and a loss at home. Southeastern comes in at 3 & 0 in conference play which makes this a very important game if the Cards have a shot at a regular season title because of future tie breakers. Go Cards

  14. Started by geezer,

Ladies and men take on Central Arkansas this afternoon with the ladies in Arkansas and the men at home at 4:30 PM. Currently the ladies are midway through the second quarter and are down by fifteen.

  15. Started by geezer,

Ladies are at home versus UNO tonight at 7 PM while the men travel to New Orleans for a 7 PM game. Personally I like this set up for weekday games better than the double headers. I think giving the Ladies a prime time spot at home during conference will be good for their attendance and growth of the program.

  16. Started by geezer,

Lamar ladies won the early game and improved to two and 0 in conference. The men's game is just beginning at 7:30 PM. Important early conference game for the men as they need to establish the ability to win on the road in conference.

  17. Lamar men and women start conference play tonight with the men at home and the women at HBU. Game time for the men is 7:00 PM. Good luck to both squads.

  18. Started by geezer,

Lamar men lost this evening to UC Davis. From what I heard of the game I think Davis is probably the best team of the last three games which have all been losses. Cards kept it close and in fact led by one point at half time, but Davis came out hot in the second half and worked out to a twelve point lead. Lamar tried to come back but were unsuccessful. Lamar plays again tomorrow at 2:00 PM Beaumont time.Last chance for another D-1 win before conference.

  19. Started by Dracula,

It's early early Sunday morning, it's quiet in the house, and even the dogs have packed it in. This is the best time to browse the web. I've checked out the Bruken, Germany webcam, Abbey Road webcam, Tower Bridge streaming webcam, and PTZtv to watch the cruise boats come and go. Really, nothing going on so I decided to browse Lamar football. I was excited about the new coaching staff and the possibilities for a fast rebirth of Big Red football. As we all know, it didn't happen. I read the bios of the new staff and there is a lot of experience there. I just wonder, what is the best explanation for last season? Was Woodard worse than we thought, which resulted in the ro…

  20. Lamar isn’t the only school with issues around its athletic programs. After one season, there are people who want head football coach Mike Schulz fired. The AD just resigned. After all the bitching about the coaching decisions in various sports you would think Lamar is a black hole for athletics. No matter how bad things get around here I have never been ashamed of anything that has taken place because nobody did anything but try to make things better. Some choices have been good and others, not so much. That’s life. Next time you want to tear your hair out over the state of the football or basketball or baseball programs keep in mind; This thing with Tennessee is a joke…

  21. Started by geezer,

Game time is 6:00 PM Central. Duquesne is a member of the Atlantic - 10 Conference and currently has a seven and three win loss record. The A-10 is perceived as a stronger conference when it comes to tournament seeding. Other more well known names in the A-10 are VCU, George Mason, Dayton and Davidson. The quality of wins for Duquesne compared to Lamar are not obvious. Expect a good game and hope for a W.

  22. Started by geezer,

After hoping for a decent game and possibly a SLC member in the finals, I was extremely disappointed by the Sam Houston game against North Dakota State. Unfortunately the way this game went plus the one and out by Nicholls and UCA says a lot about the lack of respect for the SLC in football. Similarly in SLC basketball the whole conference has to step up and improve their programs and scheduling. If the SLC ever wants to get out of the bottom tier of the rankings every program must improve and start winning games against peer conferences. It won't be easy but it is what has to happen and it is one of the things the next AD will have to work on. A few of the SLC membe…

  23. Started by geezer,

Early in the game and Lamar is up four to zip. Remember going to a game at SIU back in the 60's.

  24. Started by geezer,

LU looks much better in the first half this afternoon. Cards are up by thirty at the half 57-27. Interestingly Price started a bigger team today with Atwood starting in place of Noel or Garth. Starting line up was Nzeakor, Weisbrod, Atwood, Bosha and Frenchwood. Much better energy by the Cards. The only negative that I've noticed is that LU is not hitting the three pointers today. Cards are shooting 49% from the field but only 16% from three point land on 2 of 13 shooting.

  25. Started by WildCard,

Jason Henderson has resigned as AD, effective immediately. Norman Bellard is the interim AD.
