Lamar hosted their Pro Day this past Thursday for a host of scouts. Most of them were there to see CB Brendan Langley but it was good for the other guys to get some exposure with 10 teams in attendance. The only results I've see posted are that OL Bret Treadway pumped out 34 reps in the bench press, RB Kade Harrington recorded a 35" vertical and S Xavier Bethany had a 9'-9" broad jump. Treadway's 34 reps would have been good for a tie at 3rd at the combine and just one off the leaders who had 35. Harrington's vertical would have been top 10 among RBs at the combine. Harrington was participating only a couple months removed from being released from the Dr. after his f…

Lamar Baseball (12-10) played Northwestern State (5-14) in a non-conference matchup Wednsday night and doubled up the Demons 12-6. Leading the way offensively were Cutter McDowell and Robin Adames. McDowell went 3-5 with 4 RBI. All 3 of his hits went for doubles. Adames also went 3-5 with all three hits going for extra bases (2 doubles and a HR) and knocked in 3 runs. His HR was his 3 on the season, all of which have come in the last 4 games. The 3-5 performance also pushed his average to a team leading .385. On the bump we saw more of what we have seen mid-week all season with 7 pitchers making an appearance and non throwing more than 2 innings. Galen Andre…

We didn't get the result we hoped for in the opener with LU losing 6-5 but when you think about it, down 6-1 heading into the 6th they scored 4 runs in the 6th and 7th to get within one run but that was as close as they got on the night. LU did have 2 men on in the 9th but the Cards couldn't push across either man as LU fell to 10-9 on the season. Lamar is also dead last in conference with an 0-4 record. If they are going to salvage this season Lamar really needs to win both games against SELA this weekend. The problem is SELA is first in conference tied with SAM and McNeese. C'mon Cards, lets get over the hump and win on the road. You did a respectable job last weekend a…

Monday will be a big day for Langley as he will go through drills at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. He is starting to gain a quite a bit of recognition leading up to the draft and it should be a near certainty to hear his name called at some point. His combine performance will go along ways towards improving his value. Bleacher Report put out an article today with 7 of their writers making predictions for each of the 6 days in various drills and overall winner/loser. DBs take the field on the final day and Langley was voted as "Biggest Winner". Here is what they had to say: He also received 2 votes for "Longest Broad Jump" http://bleacherreport.com/art…

Ok, screw it, Sweet T Eagle Eye and whoever else, bAsh me all you want. I don't care, I'm going to vent anyway! I'm sick of this crap. I sit here watching these play in games and these NIT games and a lot of what I'm seeing is crappy basketball. I think about our baseball team getting swept by SAM Houston. I think about years and years of losing (thank God for women's basketball). I think about how happy we are with mediocrity in basketball in one of the crappiest basketball conferences in the country. And, I think about excuses. I also think about goals. What is the point of competition? Hell, what is life about? At the end of the day it's all about competiti…

Late to the party with this one but the Cards are up 6-4 in the top of the 8th. However, Rice is threatening with runners on 1st & 2nd with 1 out.

Cards open conference with three straight losses at Sam. Lot's to improve upon going forward. Pitching showing that it is young and inexperienced in giving up a total of 18 runs over the three games. I think the Cards got out to the early lead in each game but couldn't keep the bats going and didn't get the pitching to hold the lead. Don't recall the stats from the first two games but in todays game the top of the line-up was and 0 for 11 with a walk in the ninth. Cards have two mid-week games this week followed by another weekend conference road trip to SELA. Will need to win at least two on the weekend to keep touch.

Tight game through most of it. Lamar led by four at half and once it got under 10 minutes the Cards opened up the lead to ten points with about two minutes to go. Since then the Cards are holding on to the lead but only because SELA hasn't taken advantage of the Cards mistakes. Like most of the year when the game starts getting tight near the end the turnovers begin to rare their head. Even coach Price got into the mistake area picking up a technical four for getting to far out onto the court to complain about a call for traveling on Chatman. Fortunately SELA only hit one of the free throws and missed a shot after getting the ball. Cards did hold on to win 77-65.

The men are the 6th seed and will face SELA on Wednesday. After that it's SFA then TAMACC. If they get past them they'll probably face UNO in the championship. http://southland.org/news/2017/3/4/MBB_0304175907.aspx?path=

Not a good start to the weekend series in Edinburg as the Cards drop the opening game 3-1. Cards did have some scoring opportunities but failed to get the runners across the plate. Game two is tomorrow at noon. Correction UTRGV site has game time of 3 PM

Hoping to make this an ongoing thread through the season so I have copied the opening comment from last weeks results thread. Week1 For reference I'll use Sunday as the start of a new week. Conference games during the week ending 12-31-16 finds the first upset with HBU winning at Sam on Thursday. Also UNO defeated ACU Thursday. Saturdays matchups has McNeese defeating Norhwestern St in overtime(upset #2), Southeastern La defeating ACU, Nicholls defeating Incarnate Word, SFA winning at home over HBU, Sam Houston looses at UCA by two points after going up by one with 6 seconds left and fouling the three point shooter with one second left (upset #3) and Corpus Chris…

Cards got off to a slow start in the first half falling behind by as many as seven points before closing out the half on a very positive note. At the half LU is up by nine 44-35. Lincoln Davis had a very good first half, probably his best performance as a Cardinal.

With the UCA loss to SFA yesterday evening the Men are guaranteed the 8th place in the tourney no matter what happens this week. Two wins will probably keep the Cards in sixth place, but another Sam Houston loss could get them the fifth seed depending on the tie-breaker. Sixth or Seventh is probably the preferred seed as the match ups for the first round will be against a team the Cards have beaten this year but in the second round would you rather play the fourth or third seed. Most likely HBU will be the fourth seed and after Saturday I don't believe the Cards match up against them. HBU's bigger than Lamar at every position and Lamar hasn't really figured out a way …
