Looking around the Southland basketball landscape we CAN win the league... ACU got hit hard by players transferring out along with Slam Houston One team that can get back to the top is SFA they just completed what looks like a hell of recruiting job As for us we lost a good bit but bring back some difference makers. Honestly I feel the season for us comes down to Jordan Hunters health along with Davion Buster progressing this off season... not to mention we need a post player to step up immediately.

Took two from sfa today to move into 2nd in SLC @ 10-4. (other schools still have games today, may change). Gals are playing good. Play again tomorrow in nac-a-nuthin, weather permitting.

Lamar will play their Spring Football Scrimmage tomorrow at 10am. Prior to the game the athletic department is having a yard sale that includes new and used items for sale to the fans. Don’t know what is being sold, but could be an opportunity to buy game jerseys, hats, ??? Sale starts at 9am.

Lamar opens tourney against HBU. Cards off to a slow start with multiple early turnovers and baskets not falling early but are only down 7-4 at the first media time out.

Lamar Senior Chastadie Barrs takes SLC Player of the Year Award and Defensive Player of the Year. 4th consequetive year for Defensive POY. Miya Crump won Freshman of the year, and Moe Kinard also took 1st team honors. SHSU coach was voted Coach of the Year.

SLC announced today the All Conference Men’s Basketball Team. Nick Garth was selected to the 1st team and Josh Nzeakor was selected to the second team. ACU coach was named as coach of the year, Delaney of SHSU was player of the year, and Marshall of SHSU was Newcomer of the Year.

Obscure scenarios rarely pop up but when they do, the results can be devastating. Alabama lost a crucial game vs Auburn, when Auburn ran back the famous kick 6, in the 2013 Iron Bowl. Imagine, if your team was behind by 2, with 3 seconds left, and this happened. Any news on Lamar football?

Cards drop opening SLC contest 4-1 to SFA. Hope for better results over the rest of the weekend.

March 8th Cards split opening SLC conference double header with ACU.

UCA beats SHSU 91-87 in Huntsville to put the Bears in the mix for the final 3 tournament spots. Basically forces SFA to beat Sam on Saturday to get in. Also, Tx A&M-CC beats McNeese 59-50 in Lake Chuck to pretty well solidify a spot. At this time the other 3 SLC games are still in progress with IWU and HBU in a close one as well as SELa and New Orleans. Nicholls is blowing out NWSt by 25 points with. 9 minutes left. A loss will eliminate NWSt from tourney contention.

Chastadie Barrs voted SLC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the 3rd week in a row and the 7th time this year. This ties a SLC record for this honor. Nick Garth won POW for the men with 2 20+ games. I believe this is the 3rd POW for Nick this season. Nick is also leading the conference in free throw percentage. Congrats to these Cards.

Lamar Women move up to #52 in the latest RPI poll. SFA Women are now at 80. Lamar men are at 197, SHSU 130, ACU 138.

Lady Cards will go for the SLC regular season championship at 2:00 PM with the winner of the game locking up at least a tie for the championship. The men will follow at about 4:30 with tournament seeding on the line. Men are currently in 5th place two games up on sixth place SFA in the loss column. A win could move the Cards into a tie for fourth place.

Going into Saturdays final game against BYU the Cards are even on the season at 5-5. As for the BYU series the Cards dropped the opening game on Thursday 4-2 in ten innings and had an outstanding pitching performance to win 3-1 on Friday evening. Blanchard pitched seven innings giving up one unearned run and striking out eight. Saturday game starts at noon.

The SLC is actually one of the better conferences in the country (13th out of 31).
