I don't want to rip Ray Woodard. He did what he could and should be commended for resurrecting the football program but he was not the guy, that could lead Lamar back to the top. The culture of his program always reminded me of the culture of Jason Garrett's Dallas Cowboys. Everyone plays hard but that extra spark is missing. Enter Schultz and Co. and something has changed. The conclusion of the 2018 football season could be epic. At the beginning of the season and certainly not at the midpoint of the season, who would have thought that the Southland Conference football championship might be settled by the Lamar vs McNeese game, on 11-17,and or the Sam vs UIW game, of 11-3. After week 5, Lamar was 1-4, 0-3, in conference, and the situation, to say the least, was looking bleak. The usual suspects were at the top, of the conference standings, along with some upstart named Copeland and UIW. Then the story turns. The 2018 Southland Conference football schedule is beyond screwy but can Incarnate Word be denied the conference championship and the automatic bid , into the FCS tournament, for only playing 8 conference games, if that is how the conference scheduled it and signed off on it? There are two prizes, at the end of the football season. One is to win the Conference Championship and receive an automatic bid into the FCS playoffs and the other is to do so well, that the FCS selection committee awards you one of the 14 at large bids. looking at the Southland stats, https://southland.org/stats.aspx?path=football&year=2018 Some stats show a wide disparity between Lamar and Sam and some show that they are pretty close. It just doesn't seem, that Sam, is the big bad bully that they have been. We'll find out in 24 hours.

Game time is 3:00 PM at Provost Umphrey Stadium. Guess I'll only listen to this game as it is supposed to be on ESPN+ and I am not particularly interested in supporting ESPN. Personally I wish Lamar was still doing it all in house. I'm sure they are getting a lot more money from ESPN compared to when Lamar was giving it away, but I would have rather paid Lamar directly for the games than to get it from ESPN. LSU 24. SE La 0, nearing end of 3rd quarter. Smell U was down 56-0 to Tx Tech after 3 quarters. Keep in mind, LSU is a legit major conference powerhouse. Probably the only team in the nation, other than Georgia, with a chance to beat Bama. How is it SE La isn’t a laughing stock vs a serious major power, but we are literally an embarrassment vs an average (or less than average) Big 12 team with an historically AWFUL defense.
