When Lamar moved on from Woodard, Colby Carthel was #1, on my list, but Lamar hired Schultz. Who? But, you can't argue with the results. In just two years, from 2-9,1-8, in conference, to 7-5,6-3, in conference, and an at large selection,to the FCS playoffs. Schultz is in his 3rd recruiting cycle and it looks to me like he knows what he is doing. In my opinion, for whatever an inexperienced opinion is worth, the team roster looks to be filling out with better players, resulting in better depth, which allows for more redshirted OL and DL players and the luxury of an additional year, in the weight room. Plus, Schultz also has Lamar becoming more attractive to transferri…

Maybe, we shouldn't be talking favorites because there were so many, that played well, and deserve recognition. There are some, who I would like to mention, but I can't remember their names or numbers, like the center and the two guards, who obviously played well, because Lamar nearly led the conference, in rushing. Here are my favorites. I generally like to watch the OL, so I will start there. My favorite Cardinal was actually my favorite cardinals, plural tense. When Harrington had his big year, He had two very good tackles playing in front of him. This past year, the tackles were #77, Hayden Kaaiohelo, and #79, Aires Gilmore-Gardner. Hayden just looks solid and that he …

Men try to notch another in the win column, but on the road. The Lions have only 4 wins and should be a fairly easy win, but Lamar needs to be intense and get out to a big win. I say Cards win in OT.

Former Lamar OL coach Jamal Powell, who came over for 1 season from James Madison and is now at SMU, is battling health issues. He missed the entire 2018 season at SMU due to Guillain-Barré syndrome — a disorder in which the immune system attacks the body's nervous system in response to illness. Bright young coach, hoping for a quick recovery. Those of you in the know, Kerwin Bell who was interviewed for the Lamar job 2 years ago, has left Valdosta for the OC job at USF with Charlie Strong.

Lamar hosts University of New Orleans Privateers at the Montagne Center at 7pm tonight. Both teams are 1-1 in conference play. Would think Lamar is a slight favorite.

Not only does UNI show us no respect...our own conference isn't showing us much love. Two first team all conference players. Not sure if we deserved more than that but there are very few Cardinals recognized overall. And, I had to laugh, co newcomer of the year....Jordan Hoy (very deserving, but second string now???). https://www.kbtx.com/content/sports/Southland-announces-2018-All-Conference-football-teams-500948592.html

Does LU have a chance if they beat McNeese? Nicho!!s State should get the automatic bid. Incarnate Ward is 6-2 but don't play again until December 1st against Iowa State so they can't also be in the playoffs. If the SLC gets a second team in then it comes down to LU or ACU. Both are on winning streaks after losing some early conference games. I don't see how the SLC can only we send one team to the playoffs.

In my opinion, with respect to football scheduling, two things need to happen. No more Kentucky Christian type teams ( I believe that Schultz said he would not schedule those type of games) and, for the love of God, stop scheduling Texas A&M. In 2014, I was there, when Lamar visited Kyle Field. The final score was 73-3, which was to be expected, but the game money was too good to pass on. That was then and 2019 is now. Jimbo Fisher is the new HC sheriff in town and the team , that I saw last night abusing and destroying NC State, would crush the 2014 Texas A&M team. The 2019 version of the Aggies will be legitimate SEC title contenders and, if they finish, with…

Lamar Men's Basketball opens SLC action tonight at 7pm versus Houston Baptist on the road at Sharp Gym. HBU is coming in with a 4-7 record while playing the 2nd toughest pre-conference schedule behind ACU. Statistically the have the top offense in the SLC. Would think Lamar should be the favorite in this game, but with the current road record of 1-6, who knows. Cards beat the Huskies in both meetings last year. Even though the game is less than 2 hours away, due to rainy weather and playing in a facility that equates to a high school gym, I am not planning to attend.

At the half, West brook 28-20 over Longview. L'Ravien Elia is fast, a pretty good passer, and the kid knows how to produce offense. West Brook has a shot. We'll see what the half time adjustments produce. Coach Peevey, in his halftime interview, showed me he's got "it", whatever "it" is. Hello, Marco Born, you had better keep your eye on this guy. Schultz ain't getting any younger.

Game time is 7 PM. Should be a home court laugher, but we'll see. Hopefully the main players come out with a high degree of energy and create a lead that allows the west end of the bench to get some real playing time and see if they are learning anything. Sullivan and Foster haven't shown that they improved any from last year as freshman. Nzeakor is finally playing like many thought he was capable with point production and rebounding. The guards and forwards need to demonstrate that the team getting a good shot and more often than not a score rather than selfish play forcing the ball into bad shots or turnovers.

End of first half and Lamar is up by nine at 41-32. We'll see how Lamar comes out in the second half. LU played Cal State Bakersfield even in the first half but got blown out in the second half.

What a nail biter in the 4th but West Brook got a stop, took a knee, and beat West Lake 35-30. If Lamar doesn't offer SR RB Robert Mcrue, then we had better hope that he goes somewhere else than the Southland Conference. If I had my pick between Mcgrue and Harrington, I'd take Mcgrue all day. Congratulations to West Brook.

Half time and Lamar is down by one point 29-30. Lamar could be ahead significantly but have 13 turnovers to 7 for CSB. Cards have a big rebound advantage including 8 offensive rebounds. CSB has two players with two fouls each and a total of ten fouls for the first half while the Cards have six fouls and noone has more than one.

West Brook, Silsbee, and Newton are working their way up the 2018 UIL Championship Football chain. West Brook is now one of four teams left, in the 6AII bracket, Silsbee is also in the semi finals of the 4AII bracket, and Newton is where Newton normally is this time of year, with a spot in the 3AII division semi finals. Congratulations to all three. It not that there should be some local talent , that can move LU forward, but there is talent, that can move LU forward. Watching what video's I can find, L'Ravien Elia, the QB of West Brook, is some kind of athletic offensive weapon. I don't think necessarily as a QB but as a do a lot type of athlete. This recruiting…

McNeese will not renew the contract of HC Lance Guidry after 3 years. In that time he went 21-12 going 6-5 in 2016 & 2018 with a 9-2 mark in 2017 but was a noticeable snub in the FCS playoffs. This news makes the upcoming final recruiting push so much more important as Lamar will have all the momentum in the world. Combine this with SFA more than likely having a new staff coming in, SHSU coming off a down year and Lamar coming off of an FCS playoff appearance, the door is open for Lamar to potentially dominate the area in recruiting.
