Lamar men’s & Women’s trackster competed the past few days at the SLC Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama. Men’s team finished 4th and Women’s team got 6th. Lamar had their share of individual champions, but lack of depth kept them from contending for the championships.

At HBU tonight Lamar senior Chasity Barrs had 9 steals to set the all-time record for total steals at 625 with 2 regular season games left.

Third quarter in the ladies game and the Cards are up 51-28 with 1:52 left in the quarter.

As Chastidy Barrs closes in on the NCAA career record for steals, it hit me that she is not the only thief among the Cardinal women. She is not only on track to lead the nation in steals for the third consecutive year (she had a bad freshman year --finished second) but the team, averaging nearly 16 steals a game, is also leading the nation (don't how they did those other years). She may break the record on the road but there is a chance it will happen at home. She is within single digits of the record. With four games left to play I would expect to win three of the four games. One road game remains and all four games are against teams lower in the conference standings than Lamar. Looking at the games ahead Lamar defeated A&MCC at home, but the game was tight and CC has a good record against the conference leaders they have played at home. Next up at home against HBU who Lamar lost to in overtime at their place. Lamar will close the season out at home on consecutive Saturdays against SFA and McNeese and those games are always tough. Bottom line every remaining game is winnable but none can be taken lightly and if LU is to get a mid to upper level seating in the S…

Schultz said they would have it finalized two days after signing day and it’s now been two weeks and still no word. The school never even announced Dan Dodd was leaving the program. Anyone have an idea who Schultz has chosen to become his offensive coordinator?

Not much pitching for the Cards in this mid-week series as LU gets swept 9-1 and 22-10. In the last game LU used eight pitchers with only two of them not giving up a run.

It's time for round two of the Cards vs Cards match up this year. Ladies are at home starting at 7:00 PM and men are in San Antonio also starting at seven.

Sam Houston is up seven after the first quarter 28-21.

Lamar wins game one of the seiries with LIU Brooklyn 6-2.

Looks as if Lamar will get new field turf, more than likely after this season per Schultz.

Big game for the Ladies in Natchitoches as they need to get back on the winning track to keep the regular season championship in reach. For the men they are at home playing a team behind them in the race for the tourney but against a team that is definitely capable of coming into the Montange and winning. Game time for the men is 7:00 PM.

Big opportunities for both the ladies and men today. First up is the ladies at 2:00 PM followed by the men at approximately 4:30. The ladies can keep their undefeated conference record in tact and take sole possession of first place when they play the Lady Jacks who are also undefeated in conference play. It is fitting that the number one and two preseason picks are at this point a little over half way through the conference season. The men will follow the ladies and have a chance to defeat the SFA men for the third straight time and second in a row up there. Is this a critical week for the men's basketball season? I think it could be a determining factor in the chances to get to the SLC tourney. Lamar faces 3-4 Nicholls on Wednesday and then currently 3-4 McNeese Saturday. If the Cards could win both of these road games they would move from tie for 10th place to at least a tie for 8th place. Granted that doesn't sound like much and it is terrible to be even talking about moving up to 8th as a positive, but that is where this team is. Lamar men have played a solid game so far in the first half and are up by 10 at 40-30 with 2:10 left in the first half. Ladies are up 22-17 after the first quarter in Beaumont.

LU Women beat the LadyKats 83 - 72 in the first game to remain undefeated in the SLC. Men lost 69-59 in the 2nd game in Huntsville and were outgunned shooting only 32% from the field and kept it reasonably close but could not really get control of the game.

Ladies game at UIW started earlier and the ladies are up 37-30 with a little over 3 minutes in the 1st half. Men's game just started and at the first media timeout LU is up by two.
