Congratulations to Lamar on the win. I had problems watching the first quarter of the game so I couldn't see a lot of Colbert. What I did see, I wasn't particularly impressed by. I liked what I saw from Hoy. That kid is quick, fast, and can find a hole. I was somewhat shocked watching Morse plow with the ball. He's quicker than I thought he was. Back to the problem. I noticed that Incarnate Word vs New Mexico was also on ESPN. Just to refresh your memory, in 2017, UIW finished 1-11 and guess who their lone win was over? After the 2017 season, UIW sacks their Head Coach and hires a 32 year old, Eric Morris, a successful passing OC from Texas Tech, who then recruits a QB…

While attending or whatever I was doing at Lamar,in the early seventies, I remember the bell on the hill. I was at the last LU game. I want to say it was vs McNeese and that was that. Now, 30 years later, one of the best football traditions returns. https://lamarcardinals.com/news/2018/8/30/football-bells-return-to-provost-umphrey-stadium.aspx

Does anybody know when camp starts? I noticed the roster additions on https://lamarcardinals.com/roster.aspx?path=football. Does that mean that players have reported or that new guys like #12 Marcellus Johnson are just on campus?

I sat down with Marco Born last week and ask him about the upcoming goals of the 2018-19 season and changes he would like to see. Fans will see actual fireworks during halftime and/or post game at home games, etc.... http://theexaminer.com/stories/sports/looking-ahead-new-lamar-director-athletics-marco-born

I’m predicting 2-9 but hoping for 1-10. I think Schulz is the worst head coach we’ve ever hired.

JC Correa, the younger brother of Astros star SS Carlos Correa has committed to LU. He did this before the Astros took him with the 33rd pick in the MLB draft. Correa has played the past 2 seasons at Alvin Community College and given the upheaval at Lamar over the controversy involving the softball program, the change at AD and the poor season the LU men had I think it is a coin toss as to whether he actually comes to Lamar. I would love to see the young man in LU red and white so I have my fingers crossed. The Astros have signed 26 of their first 31 picks but the final 9 picks (#32-40) remain unsigned. This includes Correa, Alex Bregman’s little brother AJ (pick 35) and …

It appears that Tanner Driskill (9th round/281 overall by the Nationals) is the only Cardinal to go in this year's draft. I'm sure the terrible season had a lot to do with that. Probably the person hurt most was the undrafted Robin Adames. Teams pitched around him for most of the season because most of the young guys weren't hitting until late in the year. He still managed to hit almost .300 but a lot of the hits came late in the year. Two members of the signing class were drafted; Braydon Fisher (4th round/134 overall by the Dodgers) and J. C. Correa (33rd round/1002 overall by the Astros). Fourth round money is pretty good so I'll be surprised if Fisher makes…

So, I was looking at the Canadian Football League website because I wanted to see what was going on with Johnny Manziel. He was signed by the Hamilton Tiger-cats about a month or so ago as he tries to resurrect his NFL career. The CFL is probably his best chance to get back on the NFL radar. He will need to be patient because he is backing up starter Jeremiah Masoli. Last week was Week 1 and Hamilton was playing the Calgary Stampeders and Calgary made a 4th quarter comeback outscoring Hamilton 19-3 to win by a score of 28-14 after trailing most of the game. Reggie Begelton had 2 catches for 60 yards in the game. It’s nice to Reggie playing ball. This means I will be watch…

Today, the NCAA’s Division I council passed legislation that players can compete in up to 4 games in any 1 season and still have that applied as their redshirt season. This is big news as this will allow teams to allow players a chance to see live game action and not lose a complete year of eligibility. The ruling doesn’t discuss medical redshirts so it is unclear if those will still be treated separately or if they will now fall under this catagory. As it stands, to be eligible for a medical redshirt, you can not compete in more than 30% of the season and the injury must occur in the first half of the season. Playing over 30% or any time after the halfway mark of the…

Lamar Baseball ends the season with a three game sweep of McNeese. While it was a disappointing season closing with a sweep will leave a good taste in the mouths of those who will return next year. Looks like McNeese will settle for sixth in the regular season.

This season of pain by LU is almost over after dropping 2 of 3 to SFA this weekend. Their record falls to 16-36 and 10-17 in conference. They have been leapfrogged by several teams in the past couple of weeks as they currently are 11th in the SLC standings with only a 3 game series next weekend with McNeese. The only thing left to wonder is why the big tumble from last year's squad that went 33-25 and finished 7th in the SLC. Did LU lose that much to graduations? The first recruits by Coach Will Davis are just sophomores so I think he needs at least 1 or 2 more seasons to see in which direction the program is going. This season is a real disappointment for sure and who kn…

https://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/lamar/article/Lamar-football-shows-off-strength-at-second-Night-12862235.php#photo-15448242 I like this idea. Woodard may have had something similar to build team unity but I don't think that he did. I think that Schultz and Co. know what their doing and how to do it. Looking forward to 2018.

Lamar Football held their 2nd annual “Night of Champions” last night which is a strength and conditioning event held in the stadium to showcase individuals as they attempt to set new school and personal bests on 3 different lifts. The showcase is the culmination of the spring strength and conditioning program. In all, 11 school records were set in either the week leading up to the event or in the event itself. The records are broken down into individual lifts for each position group along with 3-lift totals for each group. The records that fell were: QB: Squat - Adam Morse - 480 (broke his own record) RB: Squat - Derrion Randle - 515 Clean - Derrion Randle - …

Cards drop game three against ACU in thirteen innings to end their winning streak at six games. Cards missed the opportunity to continue the streak on a two out two run homer in the top of the ninth to give ACU a 4-3 lead. Cards came back to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to get the winning run across. Cards also missed opportunities to win the game in the 10th, 11th and 12th before ACU got a run across in the top of the thirteenth. Cards are currently sitting in 8th place and will play Nicholls who is tied for ninth place next weekend. Cards haven't had their open weekend yet so despite currently sitting in 8th place will need to take the s…

Price announced the addition of Edwin Jeudy to the basketball team for the upcoming year. Jeudy played two years at Gillette Wyoming Community College and was rated as the #78 Juco prospect. He averaged a double double in points and rebounds. Sounds like the kind of player Lamar needs. http://www.lamarcardinals.com/news/2018/4/17/mens-basketball-cards-sign-top-100-juco-prospect.aspx?path=mbball

The reconstruction of the Setzer Center is now complete. The back and front entrances have been remodeled and are completely different. I've seen several articles, with pictures, of the Quad side but I have not run across any pictures of the parking lot side. The question is, which side is considered the front entrance and which side is considered the back entrance?

Granted it was against the one of only two teams behind the Cards in conference play but the Cards got both a series win and a sweep for the first time this year. It wasn't easy as the Cards gave up three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to allow CC to tie the game at seven. The Cards did come back with two runs in the top of the tenth and held the Islanders to win game three. Earlier in the weekend saw the Cards get a 12-2 win Friday and an 11-6 win Saturday afternoon. Kept up with the game this afternoon but waited to post until the game was complete to avoid jinxing the outcome. Maybe this will be a turning point for the program.

Lamar Baseball picked up a commitment today from Alvin CC 2nd baseman Jean Carlos “JC” Correa. For obvious reasons, MLB fans will recognize the name. This is in fact the younger brother of Astros SS Carlos Correa (yes they share the name Carlos too). Before people think he’s being recruited on name alone just know that the younger Correa currently leads ACC in BA (.404) Hits (42) Doubles (12) and OBP (.500).
